A good buddy of mine recently purchased an 06' Road King and he is having a hard time getting some straight answers on some mods he is wanting to do.
My lifelong biking experiences pertain solely to carb bikes.......it was easy for me to know what mods to make to my ride in order to crank out more torque and hp...but I am ill equipped to give him the best answers for his own.
He has purchased a set of V&H bigshot true duals and knows he needs to modify air intake and the fuel injection. I already suggested the SE stage I kit but what else does he need to do?
He spoke with four different dealers and has gotten four different answers which, in addition to the pipes, include re-mapping, purchasing a power commander and even having it race tuned.
Can you guys with fuel injected touring bikes give me some solid advice that will yeild the results he is looking for so he can get the most out of his new pipes? Like anyone who primarily cruises he wants increased torque, throttle response and power..........
SE air kit, PCIII and a professional dyno tune for optimization. Can't beat that combo for performance, rideability and fuel economy. Think of it as a very worthwhile investment in increased riding pleasure!
Yup - I agree - SE air cleaner, then, Power Commander and a good session on the dyno to optimize the map. Not a big deal - may want to check the injector size that came with the bike. I believe they have been changed.
I second the motion with the SE Stage 1 air cleaner and the Power Commander III .. several folks told me I didn't need the PC III but I found that it gave me a lot more pulling power (with a dyno tune) from 65 to 80mph to pass those pesky 18 wheelers on the freeways. Without it my Road Glide ( even with the Stage 1 breather kit, Bubs Tru-Duals and Thunderheader slip-on mufflers ) was pretty flat and not much passing power. Later I added the S&S gear drive and Andrews 37g cams ... and I couldn't be happier with it. Good Luck!!
