What's the difference between the 255,s and the 253's?

I believe the 253 and 255 are the same, the 255 is for the newer style cam chain in the 07 and up.... not positive though.

They are about as different as cams can be, IMO:

SE-253
Lift: .538"/.538"
Duration: 240°/256°
Intake: 7° BTDC/53° ABDC 0.119"/.158"
Exhaust: 59° BBDC/17° ATDC

SE-255 .550"/.550"
Duration: 211°/235°
Intake: 6° BTDC/25° ABDC 0.079"/.070"
Exhaust: 48° BBDC/7° ATDC

The intake close alone is enough to make a major difference in the low-end without increasing compression. IMO the 253's would be a poor choice if low-end TQ was a priority and stock compression was used.

I personally ride an Ultra and almost always go over 4,000 rpm just getting up to speed to merge on the freeway.
I see little practical difference. The headwork was the same, which I think would benefit the 6-6's more than the 255's since they are a peakier grind and the headwork will benefit higher RPM's more than lower. I would think it would likely hurt the low-end overall. The difference between Jackpot mufflers with stock head pipes vs. MO's with the Power Duals would not be clear to me, although I tend to think of the Jackpots as being the best-performing slip-ons available, all other factors being equal. They are not equal with the addition of the PD's, but I can't say how the two exhaust setups compare on the dyno.

Not trying to get into a debate on cams I'm no expert, but everything is a comprimise. Overall, from my personal experience and from the posters comments, seems that the Woods cam gives more grunt overall.
They do, but were likely not as strong in the extreme low-end and in the OP's opinion did not provide any performance increase "where he rides." It's all where you want the power to come in, and the 6-6's would clearly be best if top-end power was your goal. Keep in mind also that the 6-6 and 4° combo would've cost me $525 vs. $110 for the 255's. That coupled with my desire to increase low-end and midrange and the decision was a no-brainer, for me.

OBTW aren't the woods cams 380.00 retail? + 15.00 for a plus 4 key from T- Man?
I was quoted $400 for the cams and $125 for the gear plus shipping, but I would think an Andrews gear would work as well and is cheaper. FWIW the 6-6 + 4° gear was my second choice, and this combo lost out because of cost and based on dyno charts I saw the 6-6's would have decreased the extreme low-end somewhat when keeping stock compression. I was determined that at no point in the low-end would a TQ decrease be acceptable, and that alone eliminated the chances of every other cam available as far as I could determine.

Cool!! Thanks Barrenmug! Huh...guess they actually made the 255's a bit bigger lift and different duration than the 203's learn something new everyday! That is a pretty good list of cam specs. LOL now I can do some comparing when I get bored.
