85 mph on a windy day. Wind opened up my right side bag. Didnt notice. Entire bag ripped off. Still didnt notice. When i parked i realized my bag was gone. Damn !!! My friends say the locks couldnt have been fastened properly. I say no way in hell , i would have noticed before i packed it. What do you guys think ???
Wait- i meant to say. I know i didnt lock my "latch" i never do. Thats what caused the top of the bag to open. But.... The pin locks that attch to the bike i know were fastened properly. Thats what my friends are saying were'nt "fastened" properly. Do you guys think the wind and vibration couldve took the bag off even if the pins were properly secured ?

That's a hard one. I would have thought that the hinge or plastic would have given it up before the whole bag took off. I'm not sure how it could have happened.
I've had my lids come open, but I can't think the wind would have ripped both pins off the inside. I put the allen head bolts and u-nuts on the fronts of both bags for security / "just in case" as a backup. That sucks that you lost your bag. Last time my lid opened, a sheriff pulled me over to point out that it was open. I felt like an idiot and wondered how long it had been that way. I should lock them every time, I suppose.
well- needless to say i had to order another bag. 07 fltr. vivid black. Im hoping the color of the stripe matches up. has anyone had experience with getting older factory painted parts .im praying it matches !!
Piratehead man- do you have a pic of how you bolted down the front ? Wanna see what that looks like. Got to do something for security now. That was a costly mistake.
