Can you use that plug to run a GPS?

Thanks for the info, I just found that in the book. Does anyone know if a 15 amp circuit on the access switch will run heated gear safely?

I think it will. My heated gear Harness has a 15 amp in it. I haven't used it more than a couple times yet. So far so good. I wired mine into that connecter on my 09 RG.

Thumbs up ACC SWITCH and a relay

I use my ACC switch and plug for my heated gear. The only difference I did was I went to pull-a-part and got a relay and socket from a Nissan car and wired the relay so the ACC SW turns the relay on and off. I put a 10 amp fuse in between the battery and the relay contacts to run my heated gear. Works great. This keeps my heated gear on its own circuit and fuse. The relay draws next to no current.

Default Electrical troubleshooting 02 FLHT

I have no power on my accessory plug under the seat. I was trying to hook up a GPS. Here's what I did.
1. I located the plug under the seat and put a multimeter on the black lead and the orange lead.
2. Turned on the ignition switch.
3. Turned on the accessory rocker switch.
4. The green light on the rocker switch went on.
5. The multimeter showed approximately 12 volts while connected to black and orange. Good to go.
6. Tapping into the accessory orange wire, I connected my red GPS wire to it.
7. Tapping into the accessory black wire, I connected my black GPS wire to it.
8. Somewhere along the way I accidently crossed the black and orange accessory wires.
9. Turning on the ignition and the accessory rocker switch I now get no power and the green light on the accessory switch does not come on. I figured all I did was blow the fuse.
10. I checked the accessory fuse behind the left side cover and it is good.
I am stumped. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Bill

I suggest you start your own thread about this problem. It's liable to get buried in this one.

Yes, thank you. I realized that myself right after I posted it, then I started a new thread. Thanks for looking out for me.

I'd check Indiana statute re: blue lights on your bike. Some states reserve blue for the popo. It's a perfect excuse to pull ya over.

Are those metal overlays on the bags or a coating? looks very cool!

not necessarily true. the acc plug under the seat is a 4 wire plug.
1: On with ignition
2: on with brake
3: on with acc switch
4: ground

Depending on the wiring of the plug that is plugged into it - the accessory will activate by either the brakes, ignition or dash switch. when you plug something in, you connect the ground and 1 of the other 3 wires. a HD accessory, with a plug already included, will be wired appropriately.

on my 99, i added extra brake lights, from HD, plugged directly into the acc plug and activated with brakes. On my 08, i added an accessory 12 v in the trunk, plugged into the acc plug and it is always on with ignition, regardless of the switch position. It depends.
