Hi everyone just finished my first year riding on a harley and can not wait till next year. I have 1999 road king and when i bought it from the owner he said he had a cam brearing failure and had it replaced at hd.I received a box of used parts which contained, valves chain and other parts.Would this also solve the problem i see on these boards with the cam tensioner as i do not want to have to repair it.I am not much of a gear wrench and hope this is not a dumb question. Thanks
Not much info to go on. Can you call the previous owner and ask him what was done to fix the issue? Did he put gears in upgrade to hydraulic, how many miles on it now and how many were on it when he had the problem?? Just a couple of questions I would try to ask.
Might be easier to contact the HD dealer the work was done at - providing you know or can get that information. I'd want to talk to the person that did the work.

He probably had the "cam bearing failure kit" installed. Yes harley has a kit for that!! It's just a collection of stock replacement parts for the cam chest and oil pan gasket with instructions for flushing out metal particles. It's probably still got the crappy chain tensioners as most HD dealers would not install aftermarket gears in a bike.
Thanks for the info the cam bearing failure was at 22000 and the bike has 28000 on it know. The work was done at Orlando Hd may be i can call them to see the invoice what was replaced. What type of cost is the repair for the tensioner upgrade.
The tensioner upgrade kit is about $460 not including some few other things you need. That does not include labor. Tow 'er down to VT and we'll have a build party!
