Thanks for all the write ups, Atrain. The extra time you spent for the pictures and the making of all the threads. Hope the test ride is what your wanting from the new cams...than like Masterblaster said, you can get started on the big bore. Be sure to keep us updated on that also.

atrain68, I know I am late joining in on the thread, but I wanted to tell you thank you as well. The only problem with the fantastic write-up is that it makes me want to, and think I can, do my own cams. Actually, with this, I am confident that I could change them. The biggest problem is that in South Texas we don't get a winter break and I would rush through the project, creating errors, trying to get back on the road. Because you know it would be a beautiful day in the middle of winter right after tearing off the pipes.

If you think you can do it, you can do it. As for the weather, look ahead at the forecasts and do it on a day you know will be gloomy and cold. We all get those. Do the exhaust crap the night before, as that's the second-hardest part of the job. Putting it back on is the hardest. Don't rush it, label everything, and make sure no parts are left over.

Great post! I bookmarked the post and hopefully will be able to come right back to it when needed. I know that I don't have the smarts to do a project and document it. I'd be too worried about forgetting to tighten something before or after I took a picture. With your writeup and the manual, I'll be tackling this project myself real soon.

I installed Wood TW6-6's with HD SE adj. pushrods that I bought directly from Wood Performance. The HD instruction sheet said 2-1/2 turns on the pushrods, while Andrews (who makes the Wood cam) said 3-1/2 to 4 turns with Andrews easy install pushrods. I did it at 2-1/2 and ended up readjusting twice until I settled at 4 turns? What's up with this? Did anyone else have this same issue? It was a pain, because the engine has to be dead cold to get all the oil out of the pushrod tubes every time you make an adjustment.

I did the same thing, bought mine from wood's and he told me the same thing ...
I had to adjust mine too a few times and the magic no. was 4 also..
Kinda sucked too i was getting scared thinkin my new lifters were bad, but after the last adjustment it sounds good, no more tapping.

The thread count varies depending what pushrod you go with. I heard that Bob Woods recommended four turns, but I don't know if that was for the SE tapered adjustable pushrods or something else. Might be worth asking. I tightened 2.5 turns and have no issues. Then again, there is not much riding going on here because of all the snow.

When I did my research on the TW6-6 cam, I called Wood's shop and was told to go with 3.5 to 4 turn with the SE adjustables. I set mine to 3.5 and they have been fine.
