Don't forget we all live at different sea levels. The higher you are above the worse your milage. Not all things are created equal. Two motors built exactly the same will always run a little different. It is what it is!

Hmmm....Lean means less gas = higher economy

More air and exhaust requires more fuel.
Cali fuel mix adds to that.
Sounds about right to me...
You are right but usually stage 1 includes a download to the ECM

I regularly get 42mpg at 70mph two up on my 120" Ultra. Have actually seen over 50 mpg on 87 octane fuel at higher elvations.

The OP indicated a Stage 1 and if that did include the flash to the ECM, the Stage 1 flash does nothing more than riched the A/F mix. It does not change timing, so now you do have a richer mixture which means less fuel economy. The only way to get your economy where it really belongs (mid 40s mpg on the highway) is to have the bike properly tuned.

All HDs will easily attain 40+ mpg if properly tuned and there are no other issues with the drive train.

Right now my mileage is crap but it's due to my right hand. I changed cams and added the PCV with autotune and the bike runs so good it's hard to resist the urge to twist. I'm getting 30 mpg using lots of throttle. I can tell just by notching the speed down a little, it won't be hard to improve the fuel economy by 25% or more.

Is it the two up that depletes the mileage or the GVW? I could see a couple of half pints weighing 300 lb total vs a 600 total for some two ups I see. That is a difference in mass of double but both are two up. Just wondering.

It is not two up and it is not the weight. It is pushing the batwing through the air at 75-80 mph. Aerodynamic drag, and it increases exponentially.

99% of my riding on the EGC is two up. I'm bone stock except for slipons, a Fuelmoto PCV and an SE AC. Consistently get 45 or better mpg, but I don't cruise at 75-80. Usually riding 55-65 mph range as I don't find the super slabs too good for riding enjoyment.

Don't know the answer but for some reason riding 2 up makes little difference on my 07
Stage 1. I ride pretty much the same with or without my wife so it's not riding style.

Wink Follow Up

Follow up:

Like I said: 2009 Ca, bike with 49 state header Non-Cat. Stage 1 up grade, Reinhart slip ons

Called House of Thunder , Morgan Hill, Ca.

Andrew told me that I had a Cailf. down load Stage 1 up grade.

Thus giving me more fuel / air than a 49 State Non-Cat

I talked to 2 dealers in Reno, NV. confirmed there is a 49 state Vs Calif. down load

The bike runs great.... No More Pinging, I know it runs cooler....etc...

So, until I get my Cams, SERT etc... I will leave well enough alone..

Cool

2007 Ultra K&N filter w/ it's own backing plate and Xieds, stock exhaust.
Runnin speed limit around 40-42, 2 up 39-40.
Running hard anything over 75 1 up 36-39
Got the bike stock In Sept 2009 mild temps 80F 46mpg 1 up 70-75!
Above 85F knocked bad had trouble doin the posted speed 46mpg!

I think that I would have to agree with some of the other posts as far a throttle, but getting a cam (to deal with heat and get the motor to run and not be concerned with EPA)
Remapping the ECM ( so the motor runs not being concerened w/ EPA) you probablly won't see much better fuel economy! Just MOP not an expert by any mean's thats kinda what the se motors do!
