hey nozzleman, try reading this: oil and your harley davidson

the upshot is, there is no one 'best' oil. choose the oil that you are comfortable with, can get easily enough, and your happy with. then just follow the mfr recommended oil change intervals.

good luck, and happy reading (the oil threads that is)

you might want to call them and see if you can substitute a quart of the 20/50 for a quart of primary oil. when changing your engine oil, 3.5 qts (no more than 4) should get you to a good level, but you need an extra 6 ozs for the primary (38 oz)....

Has anybody looked at Amsoil test sheet's to see if they compared Redline to Amsoil in the four ball wear test...ect. I know their test is going to say they have the best oil, but almost all their test show Mobile 1 a close second in almost every catagory. Of course in Mobil1 test, they are the best and so on. Just wondering????
Redline makes Redline products. He he!
No need for four ***** to be on a bike. Redline blows 'em all away with the two ball test.

20/50 in the motor
MTL in the primary
Shockproof in the tranny

Lucky me, the local speed shop carries them all. (Speed shop for car gearheads).

kind of interesting (to me at least) that amsoil is the only supplier that uses the 4 ball wear test.

Thanks, that answered my question Here's some interesting reading. Seem's if this wasn't true, Redline would sue. It's the only comparison test I could readily find. I'm sure theres more.

Last I heard, Baker recommended Spectro 75w140 and I think they even include a bottle with their trannys.

Lots of years using it without anything negative. Also makes for discerning difference between tranny leak and primary leak due to color differences.

Default thanks for the kind words

The comments here on Heavy Shockproof and/or our V-Twin Transmission Fluid are great to read. In a wet sump trans like in these bikes, it simply solves a lot of problems without side effects. Some mechanics don't like it since it's coating ability means they have to work a bit more to clean it off the gears for inspection, but it sounds like most of you see that it's a good problem to have!

In responding to that question of why we don't react to Amsoil's testing and negative campaigns, we simply don't resort to those kind of tactics. The success of our products stands on its own in terms of wear, drain interval, lower temps, shiftability, etc. That seems to stand out in this thread. Smart people see through that stuff.

Thanks for the support. Don't know if this was already posted in the thread but check out our website as we have a new HD story on engines with a lot of great tech help for you guys that like that stuff. You'll see a transmission story there soon, too.

We don't post a lot in these forums as it's your place to play, but I just wanted to clear up that Amsoil post.

See ya,
Cameron Evans/Red Line Oil

Did you see that the comparison refers to a test dated January 1995?

Nice catch on the fine print!
Kind of makes me wonder what a more recent test would show. LOL

Odds are, that recent tests do exist, but are not as flattering to Amsoil.
