Gol dang it, any of you guys have any ideas on how to add a couple of tons of lead weight to a Harley........I have got to figure this out if I hope to keep up with him when we go for a ride.........it was bad enough when I watched his rear tire skinny up on the 120 build, now I'll never be able to keep pace (that's a laugh) with him when he gets on it, it'll just be poor ole me watching him disappear into the distant sunset, all by my little lonesome.....sounds pitifull doesn't it?......anyone want to contribute some parts or money for me to be able to keep up with my buddy?.........I take paypal.......no? no takers?.....Damn, I guess I'll just have to suffer until I can come up with the necessary ingredients for competition......

Congrats PhilM, that's one hell of a build ya got there!

P.S. let's try to get a ride in on Saturday. You lead, I'll follow (as if I could do anything else!).

Just get his SERT and set the rev limiter to 2500. Should last for a minute. Nice job Phil.

Numbers matter to a degree even for tuning aspects but I think what Phil was doing was just posting the numbers for people who wanted it. If he didn't post them then people would be hounding him for them. It is a lose/lose situation. I personally don't look at peak numbers myself I just look at the graph to see the Driveability and see when the torque comes in and can say by looking at his graph that those are impressive. Phil even said that he could pull some more but chose to back it down for long distance driving. This once again shows his knowledge and how he is educating people.

Back to philm, Congrats on the build and I have to say that after looking at that graph, it would be hard to get the smile off of my face after riding that. Great work, having the torque come in and be that consistent right off idle is impressive. Not like some other builds that have better peak numbers but don't come to life until after 3500rpm. Yours is truely a road monster.

The dyno chart is really for the tuner. I use it to make sure the changes being made are having a positive affect. I also usually run a baseline as bike was delivered and then a final. In Phil's case this was a fresh motor so I wanted some low rpm tuning before I went WOT. The base tune file used was not opitmized in anyway for this motor. The Torque line is the most significant line when doing ignition adjustments. This line needs to stay at the peak during these adjustments or you run the risk of being retarded which will build heat or too advanced which could ping. There is a fine line between fuel/ignition/Torque and detonation. They all work together.

The real proof is the rideability and how the bike performs through the powerband. Another important point is the accel to decel transition to make sure it is as smooth as it can be. You can not see this on a dyno chart so as Phil says and I agree the chart is for viewing and satisfying those curious about a build and it really does not matter overall. It really means nothing about how well the bike is tuned over the entire range as it is only a WOT pull.

Since this bike does have the SuperTrapp muffler there could be more tuning and optimizing if he wants to. I could see a couple of different tunes depending on the riding situation with the disc for noise reduction and without the disk for all out WOT. This is totally up to Phil and what he decides. This bike has some really nice manors at low RPM.

Phil, congrats on the build; that's one strong engine you've assembled; 150 ft. lbs @ 2500 rpm is scary--at least for me. Looking forward to your ride reports on the build's road manners.

Ed, thanks for the explanation on the tune WOT tune.

Mark, if you get a chance you should spend some time with a qualified dyno tuner and learn what's being done with a dyno tune.

I don't have enough miles to give a realistic mileage report yet.

I expect that as long as I ride normal and resist the urge to twist it up tight (yea, right!), it'll be in the 40~45mpg range.
