hey guys i have a slight problem with my throttle (2008 FLHX)
even if the bike is wormed up when at idle the rpm indicator is at 20rpm while ususally it should be 10-12 rpm...on long rides while not using cruise control some times it goes up to 25rpm !!!!
I've heard some say the dealer needs to do a re-flash on the computer to correct this. Everytime I've had this problem, it is because I had my hand on the throttle when I shut it off. If you cycle the ignition 5 times I think, it will re-set. (I think the directions on how to do this are in the owners manual, or just call and ask your dealer. Common problem with the TBW bikes.)
I'd go with the typical quick-fix (cycle on-off 4 times, etc.) and just take care not to do it later (although the fix is simple, so there you go).
I've heard of latency issues with the computer fix...
I just got my 2008 FLHTP a week ago. When I got it, it was idling high (@ 1600 rpm)... did a search regarding high idle, and came across Harley TT380, which went over cycling the ignition 4 times to reset the TGS zero position stored in the ECM. This, plus knowing not to touch the throttle with the ingnition on or when turning off the bike, has fixed the problem so far...
I assume since this was a police bike in service, they did not perform the flash update referenced in TT380 - mainly due to this disclaimer in the Tech Tip:
"Under certain conditions and riding styles some customers may notice a slightly different throttle feel, or comment on reduced engine responsiveness. This is due to the increased dead-band and will feel similar to a loose throttle cable adjustment on non-ETC vehicles. Therefore, we recommend only reflashing vehicles for customers experiencing the high idle concern and wait for the next version calibrations before updating vehicles on a wider scale."
Have they come out with "the next version calibrations" yet, or a permanent fix for this issue? Also, in the TT380, they referenced a permanent fix:
"To correct this condition we will be making several changes to the throttle grip sensor to reduce voltage variances and also update the way the calibrations strategy looks at and records these voltages. Completion of these changes and test validation will take several months."
But, it sounds to me that this issu has not been fixed yet with report of 2010 bikes exhibiting the same issue...
Just wondering if I shoud get the flash fix referenced in TT380 while the bike is still under factory warranty...
