From: Dallas, TX & Santa Fe, NM when I can find the time....
Have a set for myself and riding buddy. So does my brother and his wife and a guy I ride with a lot. On our Sturgis trip, we were all able to communicate (well, 3 at a time - daisy chain style).
Wind noise comes and goes with the conditions. Never enough to make me want to give up on the device. The times it gets noisy, I just turn off VOX and/or turn down my volume...makes a big difference. Am going to try taping the leading edge.
I have mine on my ff and 3/4 helmets, but not my 1/2 as it doesn't have ear pads. I just used the set screw to mount it. No problems with it coming un-done after a year+ of use.
Advice - if pairing to a 3rd person. Make sure only 2 of the Scalas are turned on as the 3rd one will interfere. We had pairing issues and found this out after talking with a Scala rep. Was told nearby bluetooth can interfere with pairing. This trick made all the difference in the world.
I also have mine paired to my iPhone and Zumo. Rarely answer/use the phone while riding, but it's nice to have the option in certain situations.
I'm able to get more than 30' with my Scala multiset - realistically more like a block before they start cutting out.
For the wind noise we put tape over the leading edge of the mike that faces out. That cut the noise back significantly.
+1. Taping the leading edge works at preventing the wind from activating the VOX after 60.
We love ours. Clear conversation, the bluetooth works crystal clear, and I listen to the FM on the way to work in the morning. Wife keeps her ipod on a lot of the times.
Only issue I got frustrated at is when I'm listening to FM the VOX wouldn't activate on speaking, actually have to press the button. Took a while to figure that one out. No amount of yelling would make it work, haha
