Default Tank emblem install

Picked up some new tank emblems. These are the screw in kind, 2 pieces (emblem and backing plate). The instructions say to install them onto the metal backing that has the adhesive, push firmly, then remove the emblem itself, push in the metal backing again, then reinstall the emblem.

It is pretty straight forward and I know I only get one shot at getting this right, but are there any other gotcha's I should know about? I will wait until it's warmer out to try this so the adhesive sticks better. I will also remove all residue from the previous emblem and clean the tank really good with soap and water. Anything else to look out for?

Thanks!

I would pick up some wax remover for your local automotive paint store. This will remove any thing that might stay behind after you wash the tank. You can also use an alcohol pad for this.

Also, pick up some painters tape(masking tape) and use it to lay out a straight line below or above were you want to stick them. This way you are not just trusting your eyes that they are straight. Put the tape on then get back and look at it to make sure they will be were you want them.

Very, very lightly put one on. That way if it is wrong you should be able to move it. When you are happy press them into place.

Hope this help you out!

Denatured alcohol will help to de-wax/grease the tank after you washed it dwn with warm soap and water. The idea of using some masking tape to get a good reference is a good one too. Good luck and once again, this thread is worthless w/o pictures!
