I do not use my front door at all & use the back door the most, there is a side door to a 3 season porch, but then 2 doors to go thru
I have a small enclosed grass area behind my house/bordered by the garage/shed & property line
When I mow the back yard beyond everything I can't see anything

Are these bikes getting stolen these days as they were 20 years ago? I am out of the loop now and have seen some sights.... Harleys in parking lots over night and in fact a fancy road glide in a deserted parking lot at a marina for a week!
In my time you'd better not leave it out of you view too long. I haven't heard any stories for years but as I say, I am out of the loop.

What good do all these shotguns do when you are not home? Not to mention peppering the bike.

Also fork locks are probably more important than igntion and fobs. They can roll it into a truck or trailer if forks are not locked.

Plus my dogs enjoy the couch and recliner when I am not home, not the garage.

I think it is as important now as it was in late July 2006. Maybe even more so. In 2006, I did not lock it in the garage. Neighborhoods were safer. We probably knew our neighbors better and they watched out for any “strange” vehicles. If thievery went up, people started block watches. Mostly informal, good or formal run by a few hardcore people and could be good or bad.

It is not the same world as it was 22-1/2 years ago. I lock the garage and I lock the ignition and forks if not riding daily. I also now lock my bike at stops. Sure it is a pain in the ***, but I had a friend whose bike was stolen right outside office windows over looking the parking lot.

Theft today is not just rolling it quickly down the street to a waiting van. It’s of just 4 guys picking it up and throwing it in a van. It is not even just stopping to look at a bike and using your smart phone to take a picture of the vin and then just ordering a key/fob.

I wish it was 2006 as far as thievery, but it is much more sophisticated now and there are so many more ways to fence parts. eBay, marketplace, Craigslist in another area, and so many more.

Many of us grew up in homes that were never locked. I’d wager now that almost all of us lock our home and trucks now. Many don’t leave stuff on their vehicle seats anymore. Knowing it is an invitation to break a window and steal me. We are nearly a lawless society.

So I guess this July 27, 2006 question is even more pertinent today than when it was asked.

I had customer that worked in the alarm industry. He related how a client of his had a big bad Rottweiler that he relied on. A thief broke in and bear sprayed the the Rottweiler. The guy now had a 150lb baby. Probably a story to sell alarms but it made me think.....

Were harleys more in demand 20 years ago? Was theft more of an issue I wonder? You can buy a used harley, for normal used vehicle prices these days.

IMO the lock wouldn't deter thief intent on stealing it. Wouldn't even slow them down.

Bad math, sorry. Meant 16-1/2. Added 6 years twice to the ten from 06 to 16. No reason, just wrong.
