Default Why disconnect the battery?

Picked up a set of chrome switch covers yesterday and before installing I took the time to read the instructions. Step 1 is remove seat, step 2 is disconnect battery. My question is if it's easier & quicker to remove the main fuse rather than disconnecting the battery, why not just pull the fuse? Just wondering.

That's a good question, when doing something like changing switches. Unless it's because there is a hot lead to the starter that the maxi fuse doesn't kill (don't ask how I know) and maybe a chance of activating the starter accidentally? General CYA in all the instructions?

What I'm installing is actually the switch caps. Looking at the Battery Power diagram in the service panel, I see only one wire coming from the battery and it goes to the Main Power At Starter. From there it goes to the main fuse. Everything else is downstream from there. If the fuse is pulled the switches should not function, right?

I would assume that is correct. Like I said, might be more of a general CYA statement included in all directions just in case there would be a chance to close the circuit and activate the starter. Purely speculation though.

+1 on the CYA. Seems most instructions step 1 is "disconnect battery", even Hog Tunes hogpod which just hooks up to your fairing speakers and not to the power at all!

The only time I disconnect a battery is if it died and I have to put a new one in.

I would think pulling the Maxi fuse would give you the same result.

With the ignition switch off, every switch and wire to those handlebar controls should be dead to the world. Kill all the lawyers....
