Hi all! The wife and I bought an 06 Ultra earlier this year...so far we've really enjoyed it (Black Pearl) and have put a few K miles on it...we put pipes, download and SE air kit on it day 1...
However, it's too slow at cruising speed. I'm not looking for this bike to break any 1/4 mile times or beat a sports car in 0-60 time...but I'd certainly like to cruise down the highway at 75+ without having to downshift and constantly run out of power.
Couple of questions:
-Are many of you seeing the same issues ?
-Of those of you that have put the 95 kit on it...did it make a difference, noticable?
if you put the 103 stroker crank in, you will have 96 inches. same as the new ones. Stroking gives you more torq and I think that is what you are looking for.
You might consider S&S 510 gear Driven cam. If you ride much you'll want gear driven anyway. I found improved Torque and HP at much less cost than a 95 kit.
I did the 95 in kit with the S/E air cleaner first year I had the bike. While I enjoyed it like that always wanted more. I wound up going back in the next winter and doing the heads and the cams. better now. imho do all at once if you can. otherwise you will find yourself saying things like "what if" and "I wish I had"
Go with the 95 inch ,with hi flow filter but substitute andrews tw37g cams for the harley 203. get a good performance muffler and race tuner. I have such a set-up and dyno says 80 plus hp and 100lbft torque. guaranteed satisfaction.
Do what you want! I've got 95 Torque and 90 HP with the S&S 510's in my 05 Ultra. The 95 kit will get me 10 more and cost $3K. It's not worth it to me. My 06 SE with S&S 590's gives me 108 Torque and 94 HP and SCREAMS like a Screamin' Eagle should!

I already had the SERT, Air Box, Rinehart 2:1. Guessing that was about $1,100 plus $250 dyno and tune. The recent upgrade was:
The S&S 510's were $675
Crank Case Breather $100
SE Push Rods $110
Fueling Tappets $100
Jagg Oil Cooler and Thermostat $200
6 1/2 hr labor $487.50
Dyno retune $200
You could always try this first and if it's not where you want, then go for the big bore and head work.
I ride 2up and cruise at 80-85 with no issues except maybe on steep long straight grades. But I haven't really noticed as I like off the freeways anyway. Granted this does not compare to the SE which literally flatens every hill. But it's a cheaper way to go. The S&S 510 are more duration than lift and therefore fit nicely without the need for head/piston modifications. Give the torque needed between 2500 and 4K where I do most of my riding.
