Hey guys. I'm leaving for a 3000+ mile adventure next friday. I was wondering if anyone still uses a CB anymore. I'm old enough to remember the late 70s when everyone had them at home and in their cars but with cell phones around today I wondered if the CB's days have gone by(do truckers still use them?) . I don't want to run the CB whip if I don't have to and in RI and Mass ( I'm going to spend a week in those two states) headsets on motorcycles are illegal so to use the CB I would have to buy a handset (another $100 bill I'd have to part with).
I use it on all long distance rides. Works great. Last time was this year from Virginia to Myrtle Beach. Talked with truckers on the way and got all the traffic and Smokie locations. I use the headset for intercom and CB and it works great.
I listen to it all the time when on the Interstate. Truckers still use Channel 19. It's nice be warned about speed traps but don't count on. Probably the best warnings I got was heading down to Florida in May. Got several warnings about the dreaded Road Gators in Georgia. Don't talk on it because I can't run the headset with my helmet and haven't gotten around to buying a handheld.
I don't use mine at all .. WAIT, I don't have one on my Road Glide, gee guess I didn't miss it. [8D] I agree about the trucker channel, just too noisy. Besides, you don't have a chance of getting on the air with all those 300 watt linear amps under their seats. They just BOOM out .. but since I don't have a CB, guess it doesn't bother me that much. Be safe out there!!
