Same thing with cupping on my 09 FLHTC, but, both front and rear on my bike. Bought it new May of 09 and the salesman told me to make sure that I check the tire pressure regularly and gave me one of those mini tire pressure gauges with a fancy dealer logo on it. Used it regularly as instructed; bike has been in for the 1000 mile check, 5000 mile check and just yesterday for the 7500 mile check, which was right at about 8,000 miles. I had even stored it at the dealer over the winter (going in with just over 6500 miles) and with the storage came the seasonal inspection prior to hitting the road in the spring. All maintenance is documented and done at dealerships, one was on the road, otherwise all others at the dealership where I bought it (third bike from them btw). So, I go in to have the 7500 check up and an oil change and I mill about the showroom. I get called back to the shop and this is where I begin to get nervous. Mechanic tells me that the tires are shot and that he recommends they be replaced. He goes on to say that he has "heard" of a bulletin, but, didn't really know much about it and that the cupping is from under-inflation. I remind him that I checked it regularly and that it has been serviced since new and that if this was a problem less than 1500 miles ago, why wasn't I notified then. No answer and tells me that the rear tire is just as bad as the front, which would explain the vibration. He tells me that if I didn't mind the bumpier ride, the tires would be okay. Then, the cashier dude says he would leave the service manager a note to call me. This morning, the service manager calls me and we talk about the bulletin and said that I needed to have at least 5/32 tread left or the tire is on me. I argued that I found it hard to believe that this couldn't have been caught upon release from storage and he had no answer. So, I get to foot the $500 plus bill for new rubber front and rear. Dealer would not even discuss a discount or give me a reason why this wasn't caught or why I wasn't notified. After spending nearly $50,000 at this dealership over the past five years, you'd think a person would get treated better. Thanks for nothing. I'm not asking for a hand-out, but, this should have been caught much sooner since the bike has been in and out of the service shop at two separate dealerships. Any ideas?

 

Took my 09 Ultra to the dealer this week to get an intercom cover replaced. Asked about the front tire and how the arrow is supposed to face. The guy told me to come in this Tuesday and have the front tire replaced. He said it looked like it was cupping. Bike only has 2800 miles on it.

 

Had my Front D407 replaced at 5K for Cupping under Warranty on my 09 Ultra .. No Problems with the Rear, 10K on it now ..

 

Had my front 407 replaced by a 408 under warranty 2 weeks ago. It had 7,500 miles and was badly cupped. The rear is getting really flat in the center and likely will not take more than 8,500 or 9,000 miles.
I'm leaning towards mounting a car tire to replace it. Not to start another discussion on the subject though cause it's been beaten to death all over the Forum.

 

I found out and they replaced my front tire. Also before I bought this bike (April 10) they did the recall on the tank and that was fixed.

 

Funny thing here. Had a front 408 replaced with a 407 at 9,000 miles (thank you ESP!). I'm an inflation ****, I check my tire pressure before every ride, and I run 40psi in my front tire. I've put another 9,000 miles on the new tire since, and not only is it not cupping, but I've got substantially more tread left than I had on the original tire. I have heard that the stock tires really need to run more pressure than what the manual states, and I think I'm a believer now. I run 40 in the front, 42 in the back, and pump the back to 44 when riding two-up.

 

My 2010 StreetGlide had just about 6K miles on it now running the Dunlop 408. Can someone tell me what "cupping" looks like? I am seeing a lot of posts here about how riders are only getting 5K to 6K out of rear tires......this aint good! Whats everyone's experience with the 408s?

 

got my tire yesterday only took 3 visits one back in june 09 put air in the front tire, sept 09 let some air out of the tire and july 10 with 10865 miles they changed the front tire NO CHARAGE sometimes good things come to those who wait

 

Service bulletin are not some thing you notify customers about unless they come to you with
A problem. Recalls are a safety issue and customers
Are notified. Basicly service bulletin are a notice to techs that if a vehicle comes in with this problem after a few checks this is the fix
