Hi,
This question goes to both the mechanical problem, as well as how to deal with HD if this problem is not covered by my extended wty:
My trani oil plug threads in OK, and when testing it at 3/4 way in it is well into all threads, no play when wiggling it. But, when it seats up to the rubber plug gasket (O ring)
it will not seat in, i.e., it will not tighten. I've drained and replaced many oil plugs in my day and never had a problem. This started doing this the third time I changed oil. My question is this, will the exteneded warranty I have cover this?? I'm dropping it off at HD dealer tomorrow and my extended contract is at my friends house, can't get it to read right away.
Or, any suggestions as to how to handle this with HD if dealer says not covered, I will debate it with HD....or if you know of other cases, maybe it is an issue HD knows about but has or hasn't handled it under the warranty. Tnx for the help.

Reason: error
Hard to say.
To easy for the insurance co. to put the blame on you.
The ESP plan insurance co.(Allstate) would not cover my fairing that had worn thru slots because the pic showed a little piece of Dynamat. They claim that it was the reason which is BS!
I think that you should see what the dealer says is the problem first before you question weather or not the warranty will cover your problem!
Thats just my opinion . As far as insurance companies go I think that your attitude with the person on the other end of the phone goes a long way. That's all that person does, all day long, and everyone likes a break when working customer service.

That's true, but if it's an insurance claim with the ESP the only person that is doing the talking is the service writer.
I had a suspicion that the SW did not go to bat for me.

My service Mgr. At Shelton's in Goldsboro NC is a stand up guy. I have never had an issue with warranty yet..,,,,i think it does depend on the dealer....Just used it got my bike yesterday....paid for itself for sure.
My HD extended warranty is administered by United Services Protection Corp., and under the transmission section it doesn't list drain plugs as being covered. I doubt seriously that they will cover the damage; they'll probably say the threads were overtorqued and weakened by whoever installed the plug last.
Hopefully the warranty company or your dealer will cover it but if not, it shouldn't be an expensive fix. Have the dealer or a machine shop install a Heli-coil insert in the drain hole, or have it drilled out, tapped, and use a slightly larger drain plug. If it were me I'd go with the Heli-coil as the threads will be stronger. Best of luck.

The repair will get costly if the pan has to be removed and repaired by a machine shop.
I was going on the assumption that since he did his own oil changes, he could pull the pan himself & save the labor, which would cut down quite a bit on the cost...
