Default Engine shut off while shifting....??????

Has anyone experienced this or may know what may have caused this condition? While upshifting from 4th to 5th during the shift the engine shut off. The stop switch was still on and the ignition switch was still turned in the on position. I noticed the low oil light was on while drifting to a stop which confirmed the ignition was still on. After turning the ignition switch off and then back on along with the stop switch off and then back on, I hit the start switch and the engine started again. It ran fine for the next half an hour till I got home. First thing that I thought was maybe got some bad gas. Then it made me wonder if there is some kind of electrical problem either caused by the shifting or maybe by coincidence it was something else. If you can forward any similar experience and know what may have caused this situation along with a fix for it, I sure would appreciate it.

I'd ask Hog Doc about that one. May have been a coincidence about the bad gas the minute you shifted. I suppose you let off the throttle when you shifted which might have given the bad gas a chance to take over.

check your stand... the spring might be loose causing it to bounce or something, that would switch the bike off.

Had that happen with a pick up truck years ago. The fuel filter on this truck was mounted low. It would fill with watered gas and debris and needed changeing yearly. Just a thought.

Could it be that there is a oil sending unit that acts as a safety device, switching the engine off when low on oil.

Default Same thing happened to me

A couple of months ago I had this happen while heading down a highway on ramp. Bike was running fine and all of a sudden it died. Coasted to a stop. Tried to figure out what happened. The lights were on, and when I hit the starter button the bike fired right up. Has not happened since. I checked for fault codes and there were none. I'm blaming bad gas.

Bad gas shouldn't shut your bike down, just make it run like crap. Sounds like the EFI System Relay (under right side cover) is getting weak. How many miles and what year bike. I think there was a problem with some years. Take it off and clean the connections, I see you live near the water so you may want to take all your fuses out and clean w CRC electric cleaner-lub.

Currently have 11,000 miles and it's a 2007. Thanks to all that have commented regarding this issue. I will be inspecting these areas and report any findings within the next couple days.

Haha, we dont got no stinkin kick stand switches in the U.S.A.! Thats only for international bikes.

It sounds like an isolated incident. I did have that happen on my 99 Road King but that was due to the bank agle sensor that would vibrate at high RPM ( yeah it happened at 5800) the TSSM doesnt have that problem.
