Ram, on the first point I'm not sure I agree. In the old V8's, the water running through did not generate heat, it picked it up in a sealed system and therefore even thought bringing heat out of the motor, was typically always cooler or at similar temp to the motor itself.
I could have stated that a bit better. I have found when the old 6's and 8's were shut off, the heat soak would keep them from starting well. The water trapped in a non-flowing system had very little way to cool at all. In a lot of cases the engine and coolant temps would sky rockt up. Some times they would barely turn over at all when trying to be started even a few minutes later.

As for the V-2 being an air cooled motor, it could be shut off with much fear of heat soak. On its re-start it will be cooler. Even though its not moving, or running, its not generating more heat when shut off. The cooling fins promote heat disipation. And since they are emmersed in air, how ever so little movement, its still cooling the engine at a faster rate than a shut off water cooled system.

I've finally added a cylinder fan, and a premium oil cooler to mine, as well as going for Mobil1 in the engine.

I think were on the same page, I also like to take the side streets out of the traffic jams. In my area and the driving I get stuck in its usually on an interstate and the next exit is several miles down the road. And in 2-5 mph that even takes a while to get to.

All good points.

you can get that thing dynoed and pay $250 or more . but why would you when its not your fault. alot of the 06s come lean. ive heard it from every dealer around here and plenty of members. my dealer wouldnt replace my injectors after several calls all i did was call another dealer and they replaced them in about 25 minutes, if you do, make sure you get the new stock download for the 25s. alot of people tell you the 8s are fine, but if there wasnt a bad bunch out there, then why would they have changed them? just because theyre injectors are good, doesnt mean you dont have a the problem, regardless sorry to hear about your problem. i feel u. my 06 has been in the shop about 10 times in 4 months, matter of fact shes in there right now. shes all done finally, hopefully get to enjoy it now. the dealer will fix yours, but its hard to be patient sometimes

Ok folks, another 2 hour trip home, this time in the RAIN... and traffic...

The motorcycle ran ok to start off, the water was keeping the heat at bay... AIR TEMP staying around 80.. (does this thing really have a use?)
Then the traffic started to SLOW DOWN then Bumper to Bumper..
It held it's own (I think because I was stopping under bridges and shutting her down for a time) but I kept
hearing the HEAT SOAK Thing ringing in my brain, Then I got tired of the wait and decited to push on home.

Went some weird ways (real scary at some points) when I got to the toll road I thought I was Home Free...
about 8 miles up the road DEAD STOP.. move a little STOP Again... THEN THE HEAT MANAGEMENT STARTED IN...
I just came off an 8 mile run IN THE RAIN, and in less than 10 minutes se started getting hot again...

Can anyone say STEAMED OYSTERS... I had to pull over and get out of the sauna...

Next time, I'll just don the rain suit and push thru the usual way home...

It's being dropped off tommorrow afternoon...

I may be ordering a SE CVO.. If they can't get her right...

i called up the customer service and talked to rob.really good conversation.when i told him what was going on with the heat mangement he told me that shouldn't happen heat mangement doesn't shut the bike down.then i told him what i'v done brought back to the dealer and they said it was the way they all run.he said that's wrong.the dealer has to let the moco tech know when there's a complaint that the can't fix or find out why that's happening.so everyone that has this issue please call the hd cs line @ 1 414 343 4056 and get this on record.it will help us all out.then i told him about the surge and he said that has nothing to do with the heat managment system.i did tell him how the dealer said the way to fix this was to install aftermarket pipes and a/c with a pciii,he said if you wanted to do that get the bug/problems corrected before you do that.he said that the bike should run fine stock.

First off, I like my 06 Ultra, BUT!!!!! all this is a crock of $hi, no one should have to jump through hoops and pay out of pocket to get the bike to run correctly.....I've owned 20 Harley and non have run this poorly, not my 98 UC nor my 03 UC. I've also owned three GL1800 wings and they all run circles around the UC.....HD is resting on it owners loyalty and one day it's going to bite them in the a$$.....

Had Heat Management kick in twice while in downtown Sturgis this year. Pulled over and let her cool. Considering the temps and traffic this year I was surprised it only did it twice.

Almost everyone that I talked to that had an 06 Ultra had it kick in at least once. Did not seem to matter if it was stock TC88 or a Stage II like mine.

Still looking for solution that does not require the parade fan.

I live in Phoenix also and my '06 RG has only gone into the early stages of H.M. once or twice, 4300 miles, 8 degree injectors. It has never stalled and runs just fine. I don't understand why some are having problems, while others are not. But I wouldn't listen to anyone that says get the bike "tuned." A new bike should be able to run just fine in it's stock configuration and some don't like to modify their bikes, and there's nothing wrong with that. Keep getting in the dealers face, make a stink, make a scene, and contact Milwuakee if necessary.
Been there done that! The dealer and MOCO will just say it is designed to do that. I had a factory rep out 2x to check my '06 SG to no avail.
The only solution is Stage one and SERT. A dyno tune cannot hurt. I agree we should not have to incur this expense but if you want to avoid the designed Heat Management System this is the solution. My SG now purrs like a kitten.

It should not heat up that much that easy. Must be other issues involved. My bike has gone into heat management twice. Both times in near 100 degree heat in endless stop and go traffic. Even then, idle RPM dropped to about 850 and skipped every other ignition stroke in one cylinder. Never came close to shutting down though. I had the 25 degree injectors installed by the dealer back in July. Don't know how much good that did with heat, but the sneeze and stall stuff stopped.
