Default Scuff on tank

I had my bike into the dealer for the stage 1 upgrade and just like I
feared, they dinged the bike. They put a scratch/scuff mark on the paint
on the left side of the tank. It's not huge, but noticable.

I called the dealer and they said to bring it in. But my question is, does
it make sense to try and get the scuff out myself with ScratchX or Harley's
scratch remover before bringing it to the delaer? The dealer's an hour away
and I'd rather fix it myself if I could, but I don't want to make it worse.
I also don't want the dealer to make it worse!

The Stage 1 upgrade is awesome....love the sound and the increased performance!

Thanks!

When you say dinged do you mean dented? If it is just a scratch/scuff and the dealer is an hour away, I would try the ScratchX. If after the ScratchX and some wax you can still see the scratch/scuff, take it back to the dealer for replacement. If it is indeed a dent, by all means take it back and shoot for a replacement and accept nothing less. Just my opinion.

Rollover,

I probably shouldn't have said dinged. It wasn't dinged or dented, just a
scratch/scuff mark.

Thanks

LET THEM DEAL WITH IT OR YOU MAY GET BLAMED FOR THE DAMAGE.

If you have a buffer and know how to use it, then its a matter of do you want to take time to go to the dealer, cause thats all their going to do is buff it out, unless were talking scratches deeper than just the clear coat, then dont touch it, because they would have to replace tank to make it right.

Gunrunner,

I don't have a buffer and would be afraid I'd do more damage with one.

But I'm glad you bought this up. The scratch doesn't appear very deep and
probably is in the clearcoat. Is this the norm in scratches, that the dealers just
buff them out? I've never had this done, so I'm not sure how it would look
afterwards. It doesn't leave a "flat spot"?

Thanks!

If its just a light scuff, buffing will fix it with no tale tale signs it was ever there, but take it to them since you dont have the expertise to do it, My dealer would yank it and order a new one, but he is a cut above most, either way, they did it, make them make it right to your satisfaction.

By yank it, I assume you mean pull the tank and install a new one?
Do they come from the Moco painted or just primed and the dealer
paints them. I'll have them buff it out, but if it's still not "as good as
new", I'll press for the new tank. The bike is an '06 RKC, so it's still
new.

Yes I mean, if it cant be buffed out, a good dealer provided they agree they did the damage would send you home with your bike to ride and order a replacement tank from harley painted at the factory to match your bike, call you when they got it in(2-3months if not in stock) and put it on for you.
