In the last 10 days, I've only been able to ride my EGC a few times, but was surprised - twice - when slowing down in gear, about 30 mph or so, that my speedo momentarily went to "0". It read "0" for a second, & no more than 1-1/2 seconds, then went back to the appropriate speed.
Why did this happen? My local mechanic does not know.
Does it have anything to do with the fact that I recently went to a new ECU [ThunderMax with Auto Tune]?
It's probably your speed sensor, a lot of times they get steel shavings on them & quit working. You can take it out of the trans & clean it off, that usually works, if not it's time for a new one. It's a magnet that gets a reading as the gear spins, that's why it picks up shaving, if it's the sensor it will disable your cruise if you have it & the speed sensitive volume control on your radio won't work, both need speed input to work.
You may have found a solution by now but anyway...
I had a Dyna with the same issue and it turned out to be the voltage regulator.
It seems the speedo heads are very sensitive to over/under voltage.
I picked this tip up from a couple of discussion groups and decided to take the plunge, once the local stealership took $150 off me for 'investigating' the problem.
Glad I did as the problem was immediatly solved!
