I'm willing to give the tool rental idea a try and see how it goes, so if anyone is interested in renting the TC96 bearing tool send me a PM.

I bought mine from Gary two years ago and used once.
IIRC he is retired and makes these tools during the winter months or as needed/requests for.
No, he does not have a web page, but he will reply to your email and if you asked for his phone number he will gladly give that to you as well.
I spoke with him one evening and he is a straight up gentleman, has good advice(if asked) and is by no means pushy as he does this as a hobby .
For those that suggest going to xyz company , thats an option as well but, why rain on another guys hobby? There is certainly nobody telling anyone they have to buy from Gary.
This tool will and does work for those who like a good functional tool.
Ride Safe,
Rob

Exactly. The only "special" tool I needed was a blind bearing puller. Rent it, or, Harbor freight sells a kit which is what I bought. Tap the bearings in with a socket on an extension. It's really very easy. Can get the bearings at any local bearing shop or order online. No sprocket locking thingamajig needed either. Have the ole lady bring you a beer on her way out to hold the brake pedal down for ya.

It's not rocket science.

Is there any other way of safely removing the inner bearing other than buying the puller????I also see reference to a camshaft shim washer...do you buy these or make these???What materials are they made of and where do you put it???I read that it goes on the end of the camshaft so does that mean it is inside the inner bearing???

Cheers...Sparra

He does have an email and paypal account, he responds quickly. I am going to buy it and let any long standing member here use it as long as some other long standing member vouches for them, just pay shipping both ways.

here is Gary's email.

Just got done using this tool on my buddies 10 SG, it works great. The thing I like about it is the install. Someone mentioned using a socket with extension, well, the tool Gary provides is self aligning so you get the bearings started flush and it also sets it to the right depth. Teh extraction of the bearings also went smooth and the design of the tool captures the whole bearing.

Will be doing my bike next and it was well worth the money, IMO

Yeah, know I see how you old A$Z tight wads are!!!! Here I just finished my cam job last week and NOW you decide to go and put out a thread of someone with a tool half priced AND then throw in someone with one wanting to rent theirs out!!!!!!! ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!! Love you guys!!!!!! We are so tight that we made our own, wether it is the best way or not, I am not sure.
My roady that was helping me do my upgrade is a cert. mech and we tried everyone around and no one had such tool and I am too tight to have spent what the others wanted for both tools for a 10 minute job. We dropped the bearings in the freezer night before, heated the cam chest up with a heat gun, bearings almost dropped in!!!! We made our own tool and used it to both pull and install the bearings. He/we are machinist as well. Wish I would have seen this earlier and would have just bought it and not spent 2 days Fuggn around building such item!!!!!!!! I wish Gary the best on his hobby and future sales for he has a great product from what I hear and see.

07 and later use the same tool, irregardless of 96 or 103. The inner bearings are the same size
