I own a 2008 Dyna Wide Glide. Being my first Harley it is a whole new world to me regarding shift points. I find the non-balanced motor runs better while running out the RPM's a bit more. My friend says I'm nuts and he shifts his Ultra into 6th just over 50mph! It this correct, I shift to 5th at 58 and 6th at about 68-70. He says this is what his manual says to do. Seems kinda low to me. Where do the touring models like to be shifted please?

You're friend is shifting into 6th way too early. Anything below 65 and I'm in 5th.

Same here unless I'm just cruising flat back roads and then I might run in 6th at 60 mph. Whenever the engine is under any load, though, 6th is geared too high for anything under 65 or 70.
His friend is right, though....it IS what the manual suggests as a shift point from 5th to 6th for the touring bikes if you don't have a tach (in my 2010 manual anyway). If I remember right its 15mph for 2nd, 25 for 3rd, 35 for 4th, 45 for 5th, and 55 for 6th. Those speeds are, in reality, too low to do without lugging, even on flat ground. On my 'king, about 5mph higher for each level is doable without lugging.

This is about my minimum, too, but since installing the 255 cams I find that it'll go down to 55mph in 6th without any protest. I don't accelerate more than a bit in 6th below about 62mph or so, however.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that. My cams (Andrews 26's) made a difference too, makes it labor much less at the lower speeds.
