Multiple radio failures in that amount of time are a symptom of something else on the bike going wrong. It always shocks me that dealerships do not look for a corresponding issue that causes multiple defects. If the root cause of the failures is not addressed, you can but any radio you want in the bike, the issues will continue.

Makes me wonder then how many of these bikes with radio issues have had any mods done reguarding the electrical system. And why doesn't the radio cut out when the bike is just sitting there? Is the current spiking when under a load that is causing this? How would you diagnose that?
I hear Ya, but still, I had my radio with same amp..4 years later it ***** the bed and now i'm having issues with all these REFURBISHED radios they're sending me.
I checked the CODE B2017 gonna check speaker connections and speakers themselves.. we'll see.
I bring it to Harley tomorrow.. if it is the Radio, i will demand new and not refurbished, I already set that in motion with CORPORATE and ESP people on Friday, they have my case #
REGARDLESS, If they put in a new radio I'm still gonna take it out and get a BIKETRONICS plug and play with hand controlls... I'll keep you posted..
I LOVE YOU PEOPLE ON HDForums! Thank you ALL for the input!!! you guys ROCK!!!!

If you run the radio diagnostics with an aftermarket amp in the system, you're going to get all kinds of speaker codes. The radio can no longer see the speakers with the amp in the way, so any code you get will not be valid....
I just don't get this.. my radio was acting up on the way to the Stevie Ray Vaughn ride in Dallas but took a dump on the way back, then on occasion it turned on and cut out while riding, turned it off then back on and it lasted a few minutes.... I then ran the diagnostic and it flashed that dam B2017 code.. I then removed the radio and it sat for a bit while i considered my options. Well, then i got bored and saw a few ides here so i went to the dealer today for some plugs and connectors, finished my project and connected the rear outputs of the radio. I then connected it all and guess what, the dam thing turned on and all speakers work now.. what the hell is wrong with my "frankenbike"? it came alive. I'm not holding my breath, i'm betting the dam radio will quit on me again when i ride to work tomorrow. Frustrating---- All this and i'm still waiting for the audio amps i ordered to replace the one in the radio (and spares) i thought was "shot".

Could be an amp, but usually only part of the issue if at all. If vibration damage exists on the board, replacing the amp will mask it temporarily by heating the affected traces. It will eventually resurface. This is why you're radio is now working again. Removing / reinstalling the unit will flex the board enough to allow the traces to contact resulting in the reappearance of the audio. The installation of an anti-vibration mod is also key to prevent the re-occurrence. The factory...and by extension the refurb facility..has made attempts at stabilizing the board, but in our opinion, do not go far enough. Our vib mod has had significantly more success.
Good luck.
Thank you for the information. well, my radio stayed on all the way to work. I'm going to milk this cow for what it's worth. Since i'll be parking my bike for a while after my 3rd and i hope last spinal surgery in a few weeks i just might take advantage of the timing and get my radio fixed.
Radio came back from being rebuilt, asked counter person if he new what was wrong with it, didn't know, just knew that it was fixed and they would double check the mounts. Also had them look at the cruise control, said wires were a little corroded. 50 dollar copay. Pick up tomorrow.
I have a '09 Street Glide, an after market amp,and the dreaded B2017 (everything works but no sounds). I solved my problem by turning the ignition to accesory with the radio off....wait a minute....turn on radio...play for a minute & turn off. Then start bike and turn on radio. Everything works great. So far so good. I guess it gives the radio time to recognize the amp?
UPDATE: that worked a few times. The radio is back to the same issue. Works after the bike sets for the night (or several hours). The radio works when I first start the bike, but 'craps" out after turning the bike off. A real bitch to stop for a short time and plan on hearing the end of the same song. Will take to the dealer soon. Extended warranty, but the second radio in two years.
