First of all you have the looks. Any touring model with a batwing or a shark looks like an extremely fat chic with toothpics for legs when it does not have the lowers on it.

Function, great wind protection for the legs and they actually do funnel air toward the engine which makes it run cooler at speed. I have verified this with a thermal temp gun.

Get some long angled highway peg mounts and you can rest your feet out to the side of the lowers and get some air to your legs when you want it.

I have a pair of hard vented lowers on my '06 SG. My sig pic is old so they are not shown there. I keep them on all year round, no problems. Oil temp runs around 230 on hot days and I don't notice any more heat coming up at me from the motor. I have heard on the later model the motor runs hotter and can cause some heat issues for the rider in the summer months. I purchased mine from this forum for $300 and they were in great shape. They are also fantastic in the rain.
Guess you can say I now have a Ultra SG!

Thanks Blackrever. I'll have to get product codes to proceed. Certainly seems like a great price.

By the way, if anyone has a pair of lowers in Gunmetal Blue for sale I would be very interested.

I added lowers, non-vented ones, to my 09 RG. Mostly due to cut down on the buffeting, protection from summer rains and help in the cooler months. They were very hot on the right side due to the dead air. I then got the guts up to cut in my own vents. The vents can open/close and do a great job! No more dead air, especially on the right side.

I have vented lowers but take them off in the Summer. IMHO I just get too warm with them. I'll put them back on in the fall.

The vents on vented lowers are like rolling shutters, unlike the photos of the rider (grillfish) who put his own vents on the lowers. Though I do like that to get breeze on the legs. Nice mod and different.

I put lowers on my 1986 Sport Glide, 2000 RG, and 2008 RG. My wife has them on her 2007 Ultra (of course). We both like them very much and never remove them.
