I am in the process of purchasing an 2003 Anniversary Ultra Classic through Craig's List and, after deciding to buy the Ultra, happened to notice that there were no lower fairings on it. (I guess all the chrome was blinding me.) Anyway, I'm trying to decide if it's worth the money to put a set on. Based on the contributors here it seems to be a toss up. Maybe I'll be able to find a set on ebay or Craig's List that are already painted and less than the $1,200 quoted by a dealer to add them. Wow! They are expensive.

I have an 08 Classic that I just bought a set of lowers off one of the forum guys here 2 weeks ago. When it is 85 plus degrees I can tell the difference heat wise. I have a power commander which might help keep it cool. These are the vented type. I would recommend them. I like the reduced wind that used to come up from under the fairing with them on and I think makes it look much nicer. Find a good used pair if you can. It was the one option I that I considered when deciding on the classic vs ultra that I really wanted.

I put the non vented lowers on my SG after trying the soft lowers. I have not taken the hard lowers of since I installed them 3 years ago. It helps a lot with the wind on the legs. They are nice on the long days. If the bike is just laid on its side at a angle the crash bars protect them but if the bike is laid out flat you are going to have a lot of damage

My Roadie came without lowers and I added a set. IMHO, vented is the only way to go. There are less expensive models than Moco's (like Hogg Chopps), but I wanted the vents and I liked the more finished look of the Moco set.

I have them on my 2010 ultra. I like them but also get buffetted. Glad to hear cowboy talk about the fork mounted lowers and clearing a lot of that up. I have a Yami 1700 Road Star also and it has Desert Dawgs on it in the winter, rain and colder months. I have some Bucks lowers on it and no buffetting at all.
I like the Ultra lowers to put "stuff" in but the Desert Dawgs have a pocket on them too. I'll probably take them off and get a soft set from Harley or Desert Dawgs for the summer.

I love mine. I got them from a member here for $300.00 in the color that matched my bike. (Thanks Dave)

I just put Hogg Chopps on my 09 RK Police. They block less wind than the Desert Dawgs soft lowers I had on, but enough to protect my legs from the feeling of getting blown off the foot boards. The fact that they block less wind also tells me that the engine is getting more wind to stay cooler.

While the fit and finish is fine, the jury is still out on the looks. My wife thinks the Desert Dawgs looked right, and that the Hogg Chopps look like elephant ears. Ouch! Anyway, I've got that form vs function battle going on in my head right now. Maybe they'll grow on me.
