Cool Lowers

How many of you have had a touring bike without the lowers and then installed them later on.. what is ure feedback... Cost is almost 1G here.. is it worth the price ? does bike overheat with them on even though u have the vented version ? only advantage i see is when it rains they help keep ure boots dry...

Spring and Fall they are on....Summer they come off.
Rain does not bother me as I wear a suit and boots.

I have an '09 RG and I just put on the Hogg Chopps lowers (sorry, no pics taken yet). I didn't want to shell out the money for the HD Lowers and heard good comments about the HC's. So, I took a shot on them. Andy was easy to deal w/, they only cost $404 (painted to match and delivered), they look great and the work well. I was worried about too much air being cut off by the lowers, but I haven't experienced that yet. They've done a great job of knocking off some of the air that comes from below the fairing, up the chest, and rattles your shades and helmets. Yet, they don't stop so much air that you feel like you're not in the wind any longer. I've heard tell, can't say it's true or not, that the way they direct the air, the HC's actually direct more air into the engine, providing better cooling. They don't seem to have quite as large a front profile as the HD lowers do. Bottom line, I like them and they were worth the money I spent on them. I don't think you'd be disappointed. Now, if someone only made speaker inserts for the HC's...

I like the lowers, particularly at highway speeds; they cut down on the wind pressure on your legs making for a more comfortable ride. Haven't had a problem with overheating and they do give you a few more places to keep stuff close at hand.

2010 road glide, put on vented lowers and clearview windshield recurve fitted according to the cv chart, eliminated wind buffeting which was my goal. bike does not run hot. look great. i still wear rain gators in the rain.

Funny, i wanted to post a thread like this also, very close to purchasing them on my FLHX. Wanted to see what people thought. Im not so much worried about the rain but the comfort and the affect on the bikes temperature, which seems to be nill.

I gave those a shot, but they seemed to direct air right in my face for some reason. I am saving up for some hard lowers also, I like the look, and I would like to do away with the T-Bag on the fairing. Just waiting for a great deal on a used set. . . .

I took em off my 2010 Ultra. To dang hot. Plus I was getting some buffeting. Put on fork mounted wind deflectors. That worked good.

Had lowers on my 2004, the non vented type. Good Points: added some storage, small but usable, blocked wind/rain which was only a problem when it is cold, some may like the look with them on. Bad Points: stone and chip catchers will show wear and tear quickly, blocked wind or cooling air to rider on non venter older lowers thus hot hot hot - motor not affected, some may not like the look, pricey if not on bike already, not quick disconnect unless you buy additional kit, can hamper foot movement on and off boards to brake or hiway pegs depending on shoe size and placement of pegs. I too have a pair of soft lowers that can be put on or removed in less than a minute. They work similar but are pretty fugly on the scoot but only cost bout $50. To each their own, just like everything else, some love em, some hate em.
