I use a Magellan Roadmate, it is not waterproof, but it didn't cost me an arm and a leg, it has a big touch screen, traffic for life, I just use the windshield mount and stick it to the fuel tank, use a baggy if it rains, it uses Navtec maps which in my opinion are the best, and I believe they are the same ones used by Garmin.

Finished half my trip which was 1240 miles and used my iPhone with the Navigon app. Set up my route profile for motocycle, no highways, scenic route and enjoy the ride. Very accurate. Was lucky and didn't hit that much rain but when it did rained I used a couple plastic sandwich bags to cover the iPhone and worked just fine. Even able to use the touch screen through the bags.
I am using a simple Garmin 255w with a handlebar Ram mount. I also have a Ram Aqua Box to keep it water tight. I bought the unit cheap at a pawn shop and then bought the mounts locally (http://www.aerostich.com/navigate-co...qua-boxes.html). I figure for the price I paid I won't be too upset if someone nabs it or it gets ruined. On a trip to Thunder Bay last year a friend of mine had a Zumo (I can't remember the model) it was a really sweet set up with mp3 and other features. Someone tore it off it's mount when we were inside paying for gas. I thought my friend was going to have a stroke. Apparently it is also important to have the cheapest GPS amongst the group. People want the expensive ones Either way you will be happy I am sure. You can never have to many gadgets though.
Had the 550 for about 3 years never had a problem except I cant get any updates when using a mac. Thinking of getting either a nuvi 780 or 885T for the wifes car (she keeps taking mine). Anyone on here that have these models have any pros or cons between the two?
I have the Zumo 550 and love it plugs into aux plug so I can here it over bike speakers
It holds a weeks worth of mp3s and has a XM radio option and its waterproof
I use a 255W also. Picked up a good looking mount off ebay from MotoMount and a hardwire from Powerlet. I have less than $200 in the whole thing; unit, mount and wire. Used 255Ws sell for less than $100 on ebay so I may pick up another just for the bike. I know its not waterproof, but the older I get the less I like to ride in the rain anyway. I keep a ziplock to stuff it in just in case I do get caught in a shower.
My "opinion".
Price no object - get a Zumo. All the bells and whistles, waterproof, bike specific.
Budget minded - any Nuvi will do - get the options you seek (highly recommend MP3 with removable card, and the bigger screens). Not waterproof, but can be used 98% of the time - 100% with a plastic baggie.
My older Nuvi 660 has been through several rainstorms (one 6 hour drencher) with no problems. Didn't even cover it. I mount mine with the supplied suction cup to fuel filler door. Although I am considering a handlebar mount.
I have about 20,000 miles now using this GPS. I plug it into My AUX port and listen to music and the GPS through the bikes speakers. Nice!
Zumo hands down. I own the 450 which I got before they were discontinued for $300. I've owned it for 3 years now and absoluetly love it. I've driven in downpours and its got me to my destination. Has MP3 player, and I bought the live time map down load for $120. I get up to 4 map downloads per year for life. Easy to use and motorcycle craddle came with. I like the fact that I can plan routes on the computer using software and download directly to GPS.
I use the Garmin Nuvi 765.
MP3 Player with SD card. I carry my cell phone in my vest pocket, I can feel it vibrate but can't and wont answer. I bluetooth the phone to the GPS for caller ID. Usually tell the important people that if I am on the bike, call 2-3x if its an emergency.
In the car the bluetooth works great. I can answer the phone thru the GPS. On the bike they can't hear me. If I find a restaurant near by on the GPS I can hit call and it will call thru my cell.
I use a ram handlebar mount, and velcro the power cable to the bar below the clutch. I don't have to use the cable, but I also have traffic on the GPS and without the built in antenna on the power cable, the traffic wont show up.
If it rains yeah I have to take it off or cover it... but it was also a lot less than the "motorcycle" ones.. 219 for the GPS, 30 bucks or less for the mount. Works for me...
