As you can see, everyone with their own tastes. Regardless of the model you end up with (personally I wouldn't spend the extra money for the motorcycle models-way overpriced), the one thing I've realized is an extremely important feature for motorcycle riders that many GPS units do not have is the ability to create and save routes. Many, including more than half of the Garmin units like the one I have, do not allow you to do this. So, if you're planning a nice ride and want to take lots of back roads and not just the quickest path from A to B, this is a must have feature for a motorcycle rider. My unit is only about 3 years old, but I am going to be getting a new one in the next few weeks specifically so that I have a unit with routing capabilities.
The 550 will save it.....show it in text, show you a demo video play back of it...., you name it...real fine unit....Remember a regular GPS typically comes with the gps and a 12 volt charger and suction cup.
This thing comes with a weatherproof quality cradel for the bike.....another quality cradel and charger for your car, the ability to take an sd card for your music and be your mp3...the wire to go to your aux input, it has blootooth, every HD dealer in the country preloaded so your never too far away from the next dealer if you have problems. I think it's just great.. JMO
I have a Garmin 2720 and I found out that the Harley Ride Planner is not compatible with it. It will take the waypoints but not the route we plotted. Very frustrating. I used mapsource to recreate what I did with the ride planner and was able to get my gps set right but two others riding along have nuvi's and as posted earlier in this thread, the nuvi doesn't support route planning.
I've had a Tom-Tom ryder II for almost 2 years now and love it. It comes with the ram mount, blue tooth speakers and mike for the helmet and computor hook-up. I have made two cross country trips and many more short (under 2,000 mi ) trips with no problems. The tom-tom is also almost half price of a Garmin or Zumo.
can you do your own routes on the computer ahead of time on the Tom-Tom? Whats the cheapest alternative with route planning?

Reason: add more
garmin 450, It gives me the basic's where gas, food and lodging. It's detail is lacking. I have found myself on roads not displayed and dirt roads. As far as route planning, well I just go. Then try with the help of the garmin to get me home. In valuable when in uncharted territoire's.

I can't, but someone who knows what they are doing can. It has all the hook-ups for the computor. and an on-line site for up-dates and all sorts of extra crap. I just use it for point (A) to Point (B) directions. Getting on this web-site is about my extent of computor knowledge.
I have Zumo 550 and does a great job for me. Never have had a issue with it and keeps out of trouble. I have it updated 4 times a year so I'm alway current. Little expensive but it's worth it.
