What size is the stock windshield and how much lower do you guys go to look over the shield but still get some deflection of wind, found them in 6,8,and 10 in, im 5,11 and like to see aprox 3 inchs over top edge.
If I remember correctly, the stock windshield is 15 inches tall. You can go lower to either a 12 inch or taller to a 18inch? Let me know if you do find different sizes.
I just put an oversized 3" taller shield on my RG. I am 6'1" and I would not want to be any shorter unless you want to look through the glass at all times. I could look OVER my stock shield, no problem but you would be surprised how 1-2 inches makes a huge difference in your field of vision.
I use a 10" most of the time. I hate looking through windshields. When I go touring, I use a 12". Here's a pic of my (yes, its my product and design) 10". Zook
Guys, it looks like the shorter shields go "up" at a straighter angle then the taller shields. Is this true? If it is, I'm sure they would block more wind then they look like they might. I like the look of a dark/short shield around 6-10" but does it block any wind from your face? Late night riding is no fun with bugs in my face.
I Just ordered a ONE INCH Taller windshield WITH a vent( HONDASTYLE) from clearview shields. Pricey but I'm tired of the wind over the stock shield bufferting my glasses. I also wasted$$$$ on a Harly 6 inch black shield, thinking for warm weather it would be ok> ITS NOT> just my opinion.
Measured from the center at the base, the stock R/G shield is 16". I have one of Zook's 10" dark shields. Looks cool but it does not block any wind. Which is fine if you ride in town but I drive my R/G 100 miles a day, to and from work, and it is not the windshield for my type driving. I now have a Clearview medium shield which is one inch taller than stock and at least twice as thick. I am 5' 10" and if I sit straight up in the stock saddle, I look a good 2" over the top of the Clearview shield.
