How long does it take to change the cam chain tensioners? How difficult is it to do this. Mine are probally due to be changed since i have about 43,000 on the motor.
You going to do the work yourself? I guess the answer depends on if you are going to cut the pushrods out and install adjustables or not. If you are cutting them out, 3-4 hours maybe. If not, 6 hours or so. I'm basing this on the amount of time I think it might take me to do it on my bike.
If you are mechanically inclined it would take 4+ hours. It is not a difficult task but if you do not have very much experience or the right tools and manuals. Take it to someone that knows how to do it.
If everything is not right when you are done you could have an more expensive learning experience.
I can't believe that very few have had to have there cam tensioners replaced. Lets try this again. If you had the stealer or an Indy change them how many hours labor did they charge you? New tensioners from Zannotti's shipped are $103.96.
Ok now you asked a question I can answer, I never did the job myself so had no idea how long it would have taken me to do it.
I took it to an indy, it took aproximatly 6 hours, but I had the cam bearings replaced at the same time.
If much of the material from the tensinors went through the oil pump you may need to replace that aswell, and if any of those little peices tore up the mounting plate should have that replaced too, if you buy the conversion kit to make it hydrolic you get all of those parts with it.
