A lot of 08 and 09 Harley Screaming Eagle Ultra Classics and Electra Glides are experiencing chrome corrosion and rust. Harley is aware of it. It is all under warranty, but the kicker is they will only replace the bad chrome one time only under one work order, so make sure you find all the rusted and corroded chrome you want replaced.
Harley replaced a lot chrome on my 08 Ultra SE3, including both mirrors, foot brake pedal, foot boards, air cleaner cover and both handlebar chrome levers. Apparently the Chinese vendor Harley buys a lot of chrome from (yes most of the Chrome is from China and Mexico) produced several bad batches, and Harley is replacing it.
My dealer was aware of it and I had no problem getting all of it replaced, but you have to be aware of the one time only one work order thing!
Except for the 'subjective' last sentence. I know first hand, since I've owned three GoldWings in the past. Oh, I see that those remarks have now been edited out...
Thanks for that post. Hopefully it will help the people blowing smoke out their ***.
It does surprise me the sometime vicious suspicious posts that would rather support Harley's arbitrary decisions than those of a fellow rider. I take good care of my bikes.
I only became aware of the extent of the damage when I removed the 'breathable' cover to discover it wasn't.
2 other HDs parked within feet of the damaged bike showed no problems whatsoever..
The dealer sales manager Dave Lang, of Crossroads HD in Allentown, PA stated, in writing, he thought Harley was wrong, should be held responsible for the damage, and I should contact a Lemon Lawyer and go after HD.
This written in a correspondence, by the Service Mgr. that sold me the bike. He seems to think that dealers have no responsibility in supporting their customers.
What type of issues are you talking about with the chrome. I just bought a 2010 Electra Glide Classic and I noticed while polishing the chrome it looks like they chromed over a rougher finish. It looks like it's pitted under the chrome. I traded a 05 RKC and the chrome on it was impressive. I always said they charged too much but you can see the difference in HD chrome. Not so much on my 2010. I was disappointed in it even before I read this post. Is a rough finish enough to get it replaced or does it have to be coming up?
