Hi Bikers of Broken Bat Fairing Brackets. I have replaced My broken brackets in the fairing of My 05 Ultra every year, even twice one year. I have seen the fix for them on this site before using L brackets. Has any one got a picture of the way they repaired them? What size Brkts, screws and rubber grommets did You Use. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bent my own out of 1/8" steel and used rubber electrical grommets. Don't remember if they were 1/4" or 5/16", whatever size the bolt fit through. I do remember the hole to drill in the bracket was 3/8"
Thanks for the replys, It is the black brackets that I will be fixing. I have changed the gold/silver ones and the black ones already this year. In 08 I had to change them twice. Usally its once a year for all four. I have changed out the license brackets, the truck mount, the Reinhart True Daul mounts broke off as well. Well maybe this will fix it for a while. Any other pictures out there of the mods that have been done.
Here is how I did it. Noticed the shakes the other day. Early Saturday am I took off the fairing and found them both broken. Welded a piece of stainless in the bend and welded the crack. Very sturdy. Sorry for the blurry pix.
I wish Harley would just come up with a real fix for this, there is no reason why we should have to come up with are own fixes!
This is not unique to Harley.
As frustrating as it is, fortunately, most manufacturers figured out it's a lot less expensive to replace broken brackets then it is to replace broken fairings.
I did a write-up on this topic here almost two years ago, and the fix is still holding up fine to date, even after an accident last October.
Harley has redesigned these brackets and the new ones look like they will last much longer. If you break one of the small horizontal speaker brackets it would be best to replace them with the new style that's now available. OTOH I would just repair the verticals, as new ones are rather expensive.
