Default What do I take ?

Okay, taking my first long distance trip - at least for me. Probably around 2500 miles total and gone for 7 days from Indiana to Niagra Falls and back thru Detroit/Windsor and east thru Canada and then back down thu Penn/Ohio, etc. I'm riding a Road King Classic. Will have the saddle bags, a Kuryarkan suit case that will sit on the luggage rack velcroed to the sissy bar and a round solid backrest for storage. Probably 4,000 c.i. total of storage space. What do I take ?

I'm thinking: two pair of jeans, one long sleeve one short sleeve shirt, 7 pair of underwear and socks, helmet for required states, doo rag x 2, sunglasses and extra pair, goggles, handkerchief x 2, rain gear, heavy leather jacket, riding boots and walking shoes, tool kit containing (?), shaving kit and meds, cash and credit cards, sunscreen, and . . . what else ? I haven't tried to pack the above yet so I don't know if I'll have room left over. I'm a little concerned about rain getting into the various storage areas although the Kuryakan is supposed to be rain proof with the cover on it.

I will be riding with 7 other guys and I won't ever be leading so I don't plan on taking gps or maps. I have 8,000 mi. on my bike and don't expect any mechanical troubles . . . but should i sign up for AAA road service ? Bike is insured and have 20 mile towing coverage only if it breaks down.

What am I leaving out or taking to little of ?

Beat me to it. I was going to suggest money.
Motorcycle Trip Checklist
I found this to be a useful tool. You can adjust it any way to suite your type of trip.

I think your on the right track,

Since your riding in a group, get some ear plugs.....seriously!

Listening to your buddy's exhaust in front of you, combined with your own can drive you crazy after a couple of 10 hour days! You can get some strange phase shifts that will make your eyeballs wiggle and it's generally uncomfortable.

It's really a good idea to put them in anyway if you want to be able to hear in a few years.

We stay in motels so we do laundry every 3'rd day. If you can do that, you won't need so many pairs of socks and underwear wich take up more room than you would imagine.

Most importantly, don't forget your good attitude and a big smile!

Your going to have a GREAT time!!!

Oh yah,......... rain.....

As long as you keep moving,it shouldn't be a problem.

I've been through monsoon rains and the luggage stayed dry inside even without the rain covers!

Just to be safe,it wouldn't hurt to put your camera(or any electronics) in a zip-lock.

Pretty good list. I always take dark underwear (biking type shorts) and dark socks, that way I can just wash one load and be done with it.

Flip flops or soccer sandals don't take up much room, and can be a welcome break from your boots in the evening.

Sunscreen, bug spray and lip balm are must have items as well, and don't forget the charger for the phone and camera, they're expensive on the road.

I save all my old underwear and socks for my road trips. Wear em once and toss em. Gives you that much extra room for souvenir tees. Who wants to do laundry while on vacation anyway? Only time I've had to was on a 2 week 6k trip.
