Tie your knuckle gloves to your jacket sleeves with a piece of leather strip so you don't loose them.

I probably carry too much stuff. I've got the Snap*On tool kit, a patch kit, compressor, first aid kit, sunscreen, chapstik, spare clear and dark glasses, extra gloves, rain gear w/boot gaiters, rubber chicken, tie straps, bungie net, my TTS and cables, water, snack bars, Zooke, a couple of microfiber towels, a Leatherman, a knife, a travel humidor, a flask of Oban, and a long-sleeved T. Always take flip-flops and shorts so you have something comfortable to change into.

I have to agree on a long sleeve........actually keeps you cooler from the sun rays, air gets through and no wind burn.

I do a lot of solo long distance riding. Lots of good suggestions already. One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet is an emergency contact list. Have ICE numbers in your cell phone if you don't already. I also wear a RoadID bracelet with emergency info. www.roadid.com. And I've just recently started carrying a Spot Satellite Messenger. www.findmespot.com
