Thanks Carl! My Zumo 665 has XM. I installed the NIM, but cannot finish the installation in the HD directions because I don't have 6A and 6B. Still confused.....

 

Xzotik, you will have a 6B (male) connector left over/unused from the NIM harness. What I was explaining in my earlier posts was that the instructions referring to the separation of connector 6 don't apply to FLHX, etc. since those bike's don't have an audio harness installed with a 6A connector connected to the 6B connector (thus creating the "connector 6").

So, on FLHX you simply use the 6A connector (female six wire connector) on the NIM harness to connect to the bike's 6B connector (male six wire connector), leaving an unused 6B (male) connector on the NIM harness.

You'll know you have the bike's 6B connector by the wire colors. There will four wires in the six-wire connector: black/green, red/orange, blue/yellow, and violet/gray.

Thanks again Carl! WoW... the HD instruction sheet is really horrendous, with numerous errors. Sheeeeesh!

Just got done connecting 6B to 6A, as you described, after installing the two additional wires in 6A (pins 4 & 5). Double checked all wires, but still some problem. There's an LED on the NIM that's not lighting up at all. Is that normal?

 

Just wanted to mention that this thread had helped me a ton. I have been holding back installing the module because I ride everyday and I rather ride than spend the time installing the module, but recently the weather here has been very wet so I decided it was time to dive into the iPod module install. Thanks to all the advice in this thread the install was pretty straight forward.

... and all the wiring for all that plus the wiring for the fairing mounted GPS... I would love to talk to you about how you got it all to fit. I think my fairing cap is one pot hole away from launching itself down the road in front of me.

I know what you're saying about all the wiring. Mine is pretty jammed full even though I have a lot more room under the Road Glide fairing. I have a CB module, iPod Interface, Navigation Interface, XM antenna, plus 7.25s.

An amp is in my future . . . if it will fit. LOL

 

Are you using an HD Road Tech Zumo 665? I ask because I've read that the non-HD 665 won't work with the NIM; and, the HD product description states that the NIM is 'exclusively' for the HD Road Tech Zumo 660 and 665.

i just bought the interface kit and it is alot of money but i think it is worth it. i use to have a interface in my truck and i loved it. this kit for everyone that doesnt know if you are going to be installing your ipod in the saddlebag you have to buy the extra cable it will go from you module to the side of motorcycle where it will plug into the other cable which will than go into the saddle bag the cable has a quick disconnect on it so you can take the saddle bag off with out having to remove the cable from it the kit allows you to leave your ipod locked in your saddle bag.you do not have to remember to remove it from your handle bars every time you leave your bike. it also allows you to control the ipod and it also charges the ipod. i dont know about some of you people but i have six thousands songs on my ipod so i can ride for a long time and not have to worry about hereing the same song. and if you are worred about software upgrade if you go onto harley site and look up the interface the is a like that will show you how to check you software to see if you need to upgrade it

 

I just got the HD Ipod interface for Christmas plan on installing it this weekend on my 08 SG. I have a few questions.
1. Can I install it so that I can put the conector to my Iphone in my windsheild bag and and the module and the wires under the fairing?
2. I also have the Garmin Zumo 550 GPS is there a way to hook it up so comands come over the radio speakers because I can't hear the comands that come from Garmin speakers.
3. If I have the Ipod playing will the GPS comands overide the Ipod or will I have to switch off the Ipod to get the GPS comands ?

 

aftermarket radio with bluetooth....no wires. Keep you iphone/bluetooth mp3 where you want.

 

What does that have to do with anything about the HD iPod interface?
