The installation instructions are incorrect regarding 2 and 4 below for FLHX, FLHT, FLHTC, FLTR and FLTRX models:

2. See the wiring diagrams in the service manual appendix.
Locate the Audio Harness connector [6] near the back of

the radio, and separate the six-way connector halves.

and,

4.
For ALL installations: Mate the six-way connectors [6A]
and [6B] of the iPod/NIM harness to connectors [6B] on
the vehicle interconnect harness and [6A] on the vehicle
audio harness.

On those models, there is no "connector 6 (6A and 6B connected)" to "separate," only the 6B connector. If you already installed the non-Ultra overlay harness (NUOH), p/n 70169-06, you will have a connector 6 to separate (the 6B connector already on the bike's interconnect harness, and the 6A connector labeled "interconnect" from the NUOH harness) or, if you use it for this installation, there will be a 6A connector on the NUOH harness labeled "interconnect" to connect to the 6B connector on the bike. If you want to use the 69200033 harness instead of the NUOH, you will have a 6B connector left over and unused. The 6B connector is a plug/male; the 6A connector is a receptacle/female.

Carl,
Thank you very much for this information. If I understand you correctly I need to purchase the overlay harness to make the ipod interface work on my street glide?

Carl,
I thought all we needed was the Connector Kit P/N 69200033 to make it work? I haven't heard of p/n 70169-06 before.....
Thanks,
Mark

To clarify, the reference to the "mistake" in the ipod installation instructions was to explain that on a stock FLHX, there won't be a "6 connector" (which is what is created when connector 6A and 6B are mated).

The FLHX has connector 6B, and the harness supplied with the ipod interface kit has a harness with connector 6A that connects to 6B.

On a stock FLHX, use the "Ipod/Navigation Connector" p/n 69200033 that costs about $20. These are the installation instructions for it:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...ts/-J05181.pdf

If you plan to add HD's XM and/or CB modules, you should buy the NUOH and not use the IPOD/Navigation Connector.

Here are the NIM installation instructions:

Guys I am such an IDIOT!!! I bought the Connector Kit P/N 69200033 and hooked the wires per the instructions to the 35 pin connector but for some reason just disregarded the two wire jumper that came with it. This connects to pin 13 and 14 on the 35 pin connector and the other two connect to pins 5 and 6 on the connector I found on the bike. Once all hooked up it works like a charm. I guess it pays to read the instructions CAREFULLY!!! Thanks

I'm curious if the IPOD radio option forces you maneuver through the tree of menus to navigate it? (e.g., if I'm playing a particular song, does it force me to step all the way back to to the "root" menu (like older IPODs) or does it give me the option to jump directly to "playlist", "artist", "album", etc.? thanks

Trying to install the Navigation Interface Module (NIM) for my HD Zumo 665. I spent 3 days looking for 6A and 6B on my 2010 FLTRX. Found only one 6 pin connector, connected to nothing. I think Carl explained the error in the direction (above). So, to clarify, do I need to purchase and install the NUOH, and remove the parts from Connector Kit P/N 69200033?

Thanks Carl and any one else with the 411.

If you already have the 69200033, you don't need the NUOH unless you plan to add additonal audio accessories, e.g. XM, etc., that would use the NUOH. See the post by mlb3164 on the use of the 69200033.
