Support for this is found in the fact that a flag patch affixed to the uniform of military or patriotic organizations (such as the Boy Scouts) is an exception to the prohibition against wearing any part of the flag.
The American Legion seems to believe it's ok as long as it's not a true flag.

How many people who fly flags on their cars, bikes, or homes lower them at sunset and then raise them at sunrise?

For those who don't lower them at sunset, how many properly illuminate them during all hours of darkness?

I see a lot of people disrespecting the flag, yet call themselves patriotic...

Here is the problem with radicalism, however slight. Someone takes the time and effort to raise the flag and pay tribute, something most do not do, and maybe don't know or have the resources to illuminate or lower the flag, or just forget, and yet you label those as unpatriotic?

Yea, shoot the bastards...

I didn't say anything about "shooting" them, nor did I label them "unpatriotic". I didn't even say anything negative about them. Most people do it out of ignorance (lacking information), and it is not intentional. But that doesn't change the fact that it IS disrespectful.

I was pointing out that it's hypocritical to call yourself patriotic, while disrespecting the Flag.

It's your responsibility to know the rules if you are going to fly the Flag....

Flying the Flag is not a no-strings, no-effort patriotic gesture. Do it right, or don't do it at all.....

There are a lot of people beating their chests about their patriotism......

Good to see it, good to hear it, wish more did it......

But some are just posturing... their posers....

It is complete disrespect to fly the flag at night, without proper illumination. Many people would be appalled to learn they are actually disrespecting the flag. There are many that would modify their their Flag flying procedures immediately, once they learned the rules.

There are also some, who wouldn't care. They would just say, "Hey, at least I'm flying the Flag!" They would probably claim, for some reason, they are entitled to fly the Flag, and not worry about the rules. That's their opinion...

I feel it's better to NOT fly the flag, than to disrespect it... my opinion.

My post was to educate those who may not know, and yes, to take a shot at the hypocrisy of those who wouldn't care....

But, I never suggested that disrespecting the Flag should lead to any consequences. Let their conscience be their guide.....

Well then we need to be on the same page... Disrespect is an action defined by knowledge of that action. If I know it's wrong and I do it, it's disrespectful, if I don't know it's wrong and I do it, it's ignorant. That's my take and probably where we differ.

You should always light your flag at night! What if someone walks by your flag pole in the dark and doesn't see it, they could be seriously injured.
