Regarding my brand new RK,there seems to be a lot of noise from the engine when riding.Could this be a chain noise or valve train or the injection system. The bike runs great except for the background noise.I'll be bringing it in for the 1,000 mile service and hopefully the service folks can tend to it.Maybe this is normal? Any thoughts?
I thought the same thing when I got mine. After 1k I went to synthetic oil. A few weeks ago I installed T-Rex True Duals. Problem solved. All I hear now is the sweet rumble of the pipes.
Yes,I'm getting fully acquainted with this machine,at first I was very intimidated by the size of it.Never owning a Harley before I'm not used to what is a normal engine sound.Hopefully the 1,000 mile service will clear noises up and going to a synthetic oil sounds like a good idea, what brand and weight do you reccomend?
Thre is a lot of "Normal" noise in the engine. The heads are noisey, there are two internal chain drives on the bikes right side. I've heard them called sewing machines. The noise is there and unless you have something wrong, the 1000 mile service isn't going to change the engine noise.
Yeah I'm curious what weight and brand as well. I have 5 quarts of AMS OIL in the garage from a couple of other bikes that I sold to get this one. It is 10/40 High Performance. I live in WI and have 2500 miles on it right now. Does the cold matter on v-twins with the oil weight?
Hello 6speed, Harleys do have lotsa valve train noise, what your hearing may just be normal. You will find quite a few differant opinions on this issue on this forum. Running harley synthetics can actually cause more pronounced valve train noise, just a opinion. Have fun with that new ride!!!!!!!!

Amsoil and Mobile 1 Vtwin 20/50 enjoy positive reviews on this website. The noise won't disappear at 1k, but with synthetic oil and louder pipes, I don't hear it anymore. Probably just getting used to it too...

I thought there were some serious issues when I got mine, hearing the same noises. It will eventually get less and less noticable as things begin to break in. I had Amsoil put in on my recent 5000 mi service and honestly any remaining valve train noise is now gone.
my dad, brother, best friend and some of his friends all have road kings and they all have about the same level of noise. I use mobile 1 oil, and they all still sound the same. its a harley they make noise. tune it out with the great sounding rinehart true duals.
