Just bought HD dual head pipes for my 2010 Street Glide FLHX to get rid of the 2 to 1. Doesn't look right without duals coming out the rear. I went with
the Harley Davidson PN# 65600063 for the headers conversion.
Looking for suggestions on slip-ons that are loud, but aren't so loud that
you can't hear the music...ha! Rineharts are nice but their end caps
discolor easily. Had a friend buy Samson 4" and were obnoxious WITH baffles.
My Dyna had Cycle Shack slip-ons but their welds and chrome plating are
not satisfactory for my taste.
I am also setting it up with Arlen Ness Big Sucker Stage 1 and Master Tune.
My friend has a 09 with the SuperTrapp SE muffs. Got to say the deep Harley sound, sounds fantastic. Strong roar with a radio friendly cruising speed.
These aren't the trendiest, or "lastest and greatest", but you will get that HD sound you are looking for, in a tried and true design. These are the same pipes made for HD, the old 65115-98B that have been so popular. These are the pipes I am running on my 88" TC and they do sound fantastic on my bike too.
I have the Carriage Works 4" twister slip ons tied to VH header pipes. The Carriage work pipes have the black anodized caps like Rhinehart but it doesn't have the fade problems. The sound is a deeper rumble than Rh. and a bit louder. The bike sounds good at idle not so loud as to wake the neighbors but enough to make you feel good. When cruising the sound is loud enough to hear but doesn't drown out the radio or become to much. The best part of the pipes is how much they come alive when you roll back on the throttle. Just a little added fuel and the pipes come alive. When you really get on it they will hear you for blocks. When you roll of the throttle the pipes sound like a deep jake brake when it rumbles, subtle though not like a drag pipe. The nice thing is that it is something different than the typical Rh you see everywhere. Nothing against them, just like to have something different.
Jackpots from fuel Moto, great quality, great sound, and if you get them on and find them to loud they also offer a set of quit baffles to quit them down some.
I have them on a 09 Road King with a batwing fairing and stereo and can hear the stereo with no problems.
Just in case you want one more to look at, I just installed Kuryakyn Crushers and absolutely love the sound. Very deep and don't drown out the radio at cruise. Sound good when you get on it, too.
