Ignition switch replacement question regarding special tools and break away screws.
Hey , Men , my ignition switch is shot i got the part yesturday and want to install. Looking at the service manual it mentions alignment tools and break away screws, my questions are, can i get away without using the special tools? and is their away to re use the screws? i dont want to take the bike apart yet if i need to get new screws, and the ilignment tools. thank`s Bill
ok looking again at the service manual it said the break away screws are NOT for the domestic bikes so i should be all set their. i called the dealer about the alignment tool , they recomend it because if you put the *** in and its not lined up you may not be able to get the *** out, they also said if i bring the *** down and the new ignition they will align it for me will it work this way or do i need the tool just in case i have to align again? Bill
Thank`s guy`s just finished the install, only problem i had was i didnt have the keyway set right the first time, i messed with it for a few minutes and bingo! works perfect. Thanks for the help. woooo whoooo i feel better now! Bill
My 2000 FatBoy (carb'd w/22.5k miles) decided yesterday to no longer turn on (power) when switching the ignition switch over to the right (RUN mode). I had run it twice in the hour before, and the power was ON when I attempted to hit the starter. Once the starter was to begin turning and engage, there was a brief twitch of the starter, and then no power at all on the console.
I have absolutely no power showing (no power-up on the speedo or gear selection for Neutral).
When I switch over to accessories, the speedo turns on w/mileage showing. I attempt to use my hazard lights (which I am not sure if they would work in this mode or not) and they do not turn on.
I have used an ohm meter on the switch, and it shows I get a reading when I apply the switch in either direction. I assume the circuit breaker could be stuck open or I may not be properly checking the ignition switch for the power circuit.
All my fuses are in order, my battery is fully charged, and contacts are clean.
hi,
i,m in the UK and just read above that for our market we have "break away" screws on the ignition switch. This is true on my 07 RK.
What are these ?
What do I do if i need to get into them ?
