Cleaning Air Filter
1. This is not where you save nickels and dimes- filters and oil keep your ride in good shape and ensure many, many miles of trouble free service. Service them frequently to keep the inside of you bike clean.
2. You could replace the stock air filter with a K&N, which is washable and oilable.
3. Performance, High Flow air cleaners give up free power.
Replacing the stock air cleaner is a smart inexpensive way to get a little more power from your bike.
The Screaming Eagle has a washable filter, as does the Ness Big Sucker. The Ness is oiled to attract and hold dirt and dust ( like K&N)
I recently put a Ness Big Sucker on my newest bike. $115 shipped from easternpc on ebay. I got the version with the chrome backing plate, as the chrome is easier to wipe clean when washing your bike.

Also +1 on smat45's post. I get even lazier and chuck up the bolt in my drill press, belt it down to a low speed, and let it slowly spin while I clean up other things on the bike for a while...
