Default Electroglide classic handlebar adjustment

My buddy has an EGC and his handlebars are too low. Any help with hints to raise them would be appreciated. Om my Heritage I have nothing in my way. TIA

Pull the ignition and switch cap to gain access to the lower bolts. Have to pull the outer fairing and radio to get to the upper bolts. You might be able to adjust them by loosening the lower bolts only, but the proper way would be to do all the bolts.

Listen carefully.Get two strong people of the same height.Have them lift the bike by the grips slowly and evenly. The bars will ratchet up,just do it evenly.Mine are perfect now.

If I am doing someone eles bike - pull up on the bars as stated above - If I am doing MY bike - follow direction in the service manual...

you will have to remove the ign cap to get at the bolts - remember these are steel bolts into alum - service manual has a spec way to tigthen the bolts.

I believe the very first $100 spent AFTER you buy a HD is to buy the Service manual and parts book... I use them all the time

+1 on the service manual.
Did this adjustment because my stock bars would hit my legs when I turned hard over. I could only make a tight turn by taking my legs off the floorboards to get the knees out of the way. First I placed a piece of blue painters tape on the bar and one on the adjacent chrome and made a mark on each so I could see how far the bars moved. Loosened the two rear bolts and rolled the bars forward. Tightened back to the spec 12-16 ft-lb. What a difference in room, control. Enabled me to stretch my long arms out some Drove for a couple weeks. Felt like maybe I went a little too far and backed them back one click.

+1 on the service manual as well. Money WELL SPENT!
I just did the bottom two bolts too. A ball end 1/4 allen wrench allows you to get in there too. Raised them up as far as they could safely go. I just did 600 miles last weekend and noticed the stabbing pain I used to get between my shoulder blades is gone now.

Just be careful when tightening the ignition nut down. Too tight and you won't be able to lock the forks.

Thanx for the tips. I was able to fix it for him and he will be investing in a repair manual instead of paying the dealer to fix it.
