Ignition lock issue
Just the other day my ignition lock stopped locking. When I try to turn it with the key the assembly turns as if I was not using a key at all. I guess that is better than stopping working in the locked position but as I am staying in a hotel in Florida a concern nonetheless. The ignition still turns, just can't lock it. Any suggestions? BTW, it is an 01 FLHR.

I'm a bit confused. Is the key turning in the cylinder, or is the cylinder frozen, and the key is turning the whole ****? If the key's not turning at all, try the easiest solution first. Get a can of Tri-Flow or similar spray type lubricant. Make sure it has a hose on it and flood the lock mechanism where the key enters. Work the key in and out and try turning it gently back and forth and see if it frees up.
If the key's turning, but it's not locking, then it sounds like you need a new lock.

Try some WD-40 or Tri-Lube. It sounds as if your tumblers in your lock are functioning as they should. At least it didn't quit in the locked position. I've seen that happen too. You do probably need a new lock though...

Actually the key is practically brand new. Almost 2 months ago I freaked when I (thought) I lost my keys. I found them about a week later after I had the wife send me another and I had purchased the Willie G. skull key. Guess I will try some lubricant as suggested.

I use graphite powder to lubricate locks. Works great. If you need a new one it's 71313-96A (with your specified key code) $110

OUCH!!!!!!! Gee thanks dawg for being a buzz kill. I tried some WD40 and did not work immediately but I did get a little more movement so maybe it will set in and do the job but I am a pessimist when it comes to how much money I have to spend on the scoot.
