Default Locking Tourpak??

When I get off my bike, I generally don't lock the forks. I will now....

In the past I have just shut the thing down and locked the bags on my 2010 CVO Ultra with either the fab or the switch on the bike before turning it off. Then the security sets.

It may be that not locking the fork was a bad idea, but I also realized that even with the security set, I could turn the ignition on, unlock the tourpak with the switch on the bike and then turn the ignition off before the bike even chirped once. It seems to me that if the security is set, the switch on the bike that unlocks the bags and tourpak should be disabled.

Yeah, that is a good idea. I wonder why they didn't do that?

If I'm not mistaken the closeness of the fob to the bike effects the security system on the newer bikes, in that I mean it will auto arm/disarm. On my 05, it takes a bit of shake or will start screaming if the bike is brought to a upright position.

You are correct -- the new security system does have a proximity sensor which is why there's also a PIN-based bypass for the system.

On my 10 Ultra, it takes very little movement to activate the system. I don't have the siren installed (yet) but the turn signals flash if I try to move the forks with the system activated.

EDIT: Oops, just realized this thread is about CVO bikes. Not sure what I said about applies. My bad!

Right, they all do that but on the CVO's, the locks are electronic and there's a switch on the console that he's referring to.

So Texas JR, I guess you've actually turned the ignition on with the fob more than 20 ft away, and the lock switch works? If so, then yeah that's definitely a design flaw.

I happen to walk out to my bike without my fab and the bags were locked and security was set.

I was able to turn on the ignition, hit the unlock switch on the bike itself (which unlocked all the bags) and turn the ignition off BEFORE the bike even chirped once. (Again, the fork was not locked....but the security was set)
