I was going to start a thread with the same question as the Original poster here so I read all of this thread. Seems you guys are having better luck than some reviews I read of the earlier Scala units like Cardo Scala Rider Teamset Pro Bluetooth etc. I got bad reviews on these everywhere I looked. Said you had to yell to activate vox, and sound was not good and the intercom would deactivate almost immediately so you had to yell again just to finish. Are the later scala's better ? The G-4 sounds good although I basically on was interested in rider passenger com. Appreciate all info and in the meantime I will read the nomenclature online for the other brand units here posted.
The Sena SMH10 kills pretty much everything else out there including the Scala G4.
Just had a look at the specs / write up about this product. It does look interesting but would take some convincing the it kills the scala without doing a more thorough, unbiased test. For a start, based on published specs, the g4 bike to bike range is MUCH better. It bothers me that the declare their range as "900m Bluetooth" which is clearly crap as the bike to bike protocol is not Bluetooth anyway
I use the Sena and it's range is very good, especially on twisty roads with no line
of sight between bikes. Very easy to use and set up. Also work great streaming music from my Droid.
I went the Sena route. I bought the extra boom mount units that have earbud jacks. So now if using 1/2 helmets just swap unit and plug in buds, when using full helmets , just swap module and ready to go. I have them paired with phones, since I have a Sony head unit I paired them with it but still havent gotten bluetooth stereo working, also added a bluetooth module to port CB, and linked to GPS. I think they will link to 8 devices if memory serves me right. I do wish it had adjustable VOX, with loud pipes and 60mph it will stay active until coasting and slowed down. No big problem. I have used them for a weekend ride without re-charging so guess battery life is OK. As mentioned, I still need to get stereo audio from head unit working, I can link them and get them paired but still no audio. haven't gotten real serious about troubleshooting yet,, but should have it by spring season.
Where are you guys buying the extra audio set, which is the base with the speakers and the microphone.
I have looked at the Phatperformanceparts.com where I bought them, extra great service and cost, but cant find the audio set part number SRAK0003 anywhere for sale in the U.S. maybe Terry can find them?
I've bought several spare items off the scala website, prices were reasonable and shipping very cheap.
