Bluetooth intercom
IMC Can you explain these sets to the supremely illiterate? I have an Ultra Glide. I have a Droid phone. My wifes phone is bluetooth too, but not a driod. Maybe this has been asked and I didn't understand either the question or the response. Here it is: I would like to have intercom capabilities with my passenger, phone access and use the bikes radio. Does this unit exist?
OK!!! I have read alot about Bluetooth Intercom Systems, and I have learned absolutly nothing!! I have, at sometime, heard or read that some bluetooth enabled gps units will work as a router for bluetooth headsets, paired as an intercom system. I don't know if I am dreaming or not. Is it possible that two bluetooth headsets will communicate with each other through a gps device???
Several of us purchased the Sena units, based on the reviews at Web Bike World. They work fantastic. http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcyc...h10-part-2.htm
I have the Sena unit and am very happy with it. The bluetooths communicate with each other by pairing, not through a GPS, if your GPS is bluetooth enabled that just means that it will give you directions through your headset. I use my phone for a GPS and it talks to me through my headset while I'm riding, I don't even have to look at it.
I've had the Sena units for about a year but I don't use any bluetooth stuff. When I bought mine the guys at Sena were very helpful with questions. Go to the Sena website if this old email doesn't work.
This is who helped me if he is still there.

Most of today's "Bluetooth intercoms" like Scala, Sena, Midland, etc connect to each other for intercom purposes with some sort of proprietary frequency (may or may not be Bluetooth) and then also pair to at least one other Bluetooth device. Some, like the Sena SMH10 and Scala G4 can connect to several headsets (currently 4 total headsets but as many as 9 by this spring). These headsets have to all be of the same model because their connection is proprietary. (i.e. you can't have 3 Senas and 1 Scala in the same network).
The Sena SMH10 and Scala G4, and possibly others, can have 2 other BT devices (non headsets) paired but one must be the stereo music profile (A2DP one way streaming into the headset) and the other has to be a cell phone profile (2-way communication). The intercom then decides priority where cell phone is highest priority, intercom is next highest and music is lowest priority.
Because some GPS can accept voice commands you may want to be able to pair the headset to your GPS on the cell phone profile. But this means you can NOT also pair your phone simultaneously. Therefore, the engineers at Garmin have made it possible to Bluetooth connect your phone to the Zumo and then Bluetooth connect your Zumo to a headset. This is the only reason / feature where the GPS acts like a router. It cannot connect 2 different headsets but can play music (if you have XM or MP3 on your GPS) / give directions and then import a phone call when the phone rings.
For those who don't have an on board CB / Intercom and want to use one without wires the Sena SR10 works as a router and can accept a CB, phone, and auxiliary input (radar detector or GPS etc). This then pairs to your headset taking up the cell phone profile and the SR10 router mixes (does not prioritize) Unfortunately the SR10 is mono NOT stereo for all functions / inputs.<br>

For those of you who have the on board intercom but don't want the wires we also sell a BT dongle that plugs into the intercom port and pairs to your headset. You can listen to stereo music OR talk on your CB through your Sena, Scala or other headset. Currently, we are the only dealer for this product in the USA.

I hope this helps clear the mud at least a little. You can always call us if you have any questions (877) 246-7187
A couple of questions about the Sena SMH10. sounds like I can pair both my iPhone and my garmin 550, can I play stereo music from both?? Don’t want to take make calls except maybe an occasional honey lets have coffee on the way home from work call....
Most importantly how does the music sound?? I currently have a road king with a fairing and I may take the fairing off for a while and along with it my music (arc amp, alpine head unit, polk 6.5 speakers) am I going to be disappointed with the music quality from the Sena??

Unfortunately, even though the Zumo 550 plays stereo music out through the headphone jack it only plays MONO via Bluetooth.
As far as music quality and volume you will not be disappointed in the SMH10 unless you are deaf, or have very loud pipes. If you wear a half helmet and have loud pipes consider getting the clamp with ear bud jack (A0303). (not available with the Scala G4) You can then use ear buds with sound insulation around them and block out most of the noise and just keep the music in.

If you wear a half helmet and prefer to use speakers the least expensive option is to use these speaker pouches from IMC. They will work with any half helmet and can be installed or removed in seconds.

Or, if you wear half helmet or no helmet SENA just released their SPH10 which is supposed to have the same specs as the SMH10 but does not require a helmet to clamp to.
