Default Vance & Hines Ovals

I installed the Vance & Hines Ovals on my 05 EGlide and I'm having a problem with exhaust leaks on both pipes. When the motor is running I can feel air coming from where the muffler joins the header pipe. Has anyone had this problem with V & H. I used the clamps supplied and I'm afraid to clamp down too tight because the clamps are starting bend. Actually the HD clamps look like they might work better. Any tips on how the clamps should be positioned. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Stick with the H-D Clamps - I did and had no problems.

It also makes a difference where you place your clamp, muffler should be slid forward so that the rear mount is centered in the rubber hanger, the front clamp should be only 1/16" back from front lip of the muffler, tighten the begezzers out of it.

Absolutely use the HD clamps, not the ones supplied from V&H. I actually lost a muffler while riding because the damn clamp worked loose. Luckily the rear mount was strong enough to keep the muffler from dragging and getting damaged. I removed the V&H clamps and put the HD clamps back on and no more problems. Doing that also got rid of an annoying sqeak I had from the left side pipe.

Thanks for the info. I was considering using the HD clamps. They don't look as cheap & flimsy as the V&H clamps. Now for my next question. Is it okay to use the old clamps or should I use new ones?? I don't want redo this job again because the clamps don't work right.

The HD service manual states not to reuse the torca clamps. I believe they torque at around 55 #'s.. Double check to make sure of the torque.

Anyone have any trouble getting the stock H-D clamps to fit under the Vance & Hines Dresser Dual heat shields?

I had to wiggle things around with slight force to get the darn muffler clamp under the heat shield...PITA!
