Went on the Texas Honor ride this weekend also known as the Wounded Warrior Ride. It was about 350 miles for me. It was cold and wet when I left the house but when we got to the meeting area it was sunshine and beautiful. This is an amazing thing done for our wounded hero's the ride collected/ earned $120,000 for the troops. This money goes in support of the family's that go through this tragic ordeal. The wounded troops need their family's more then ever during their rehab and in trying to get their lives back. Some lost limbs, some were burned some just plain blown up all are hero's and deserve our support. The family's stay at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio with their warrior some of the wives and parents spent months by the bedsides of their love ones this support allows them to do that. Well the ride home was cold and wet too but nothing compared to what our wounded warriors go through. I was honored to make the ride and honored to put up with a little bit of rain and cold. If you live anywhere close please put this on your ride list you will be moved I promise it will be one of your favorite runs after you've been once. I will be back every year that I can for sure.
+1. thanks for riding over from LA, and in the rain. believe me, these young heroes appreciate it. yet, we are the ones that should appreciate their sacrifices.
this was my fourth run. I didn't come as far as you, just 50 miles or so out to the rest stop, then in with the group to Ft Sam.
Last year was with a group that escorted the wounded warriors to a fishing trip here on the coast. We stopped for lunch about 25 miles from the final destination, after lunch about a dozen of these warriors wanted to ride with us the last leg of the trip.
I was extremely honored to let this young man ride with me and listen to his stories, he barely walked with crutches and had to helped on and off the bike. Damn near had his foot blown off right at the ankle. I remember thinking just how petty my problems were compared to his.

My wife and I along with another couple rode from Houston. The weather was just crappy when we left and for a second thought about calling it a day. But then I started thinking about those wounded soldiers and thought about the sacrifices they've made for us. It wasn't quite as cold any longer. What a day...what a ride. Honored to participate, humbled in the presence of those who serve.
didn't make it this year but have been before. one of the most emotional things i have ever done. i had to walk away for a few minutes to gather myself. yet these guys and gals have smiles on their faces. GOD BLESS ALL OF OUR HEROES.
My brother in law and sister are members of that group, one of these years the wife and I are going to go on that ride. Thier names are Thomas and Charleen Ross, he is a retired sergent from the army. If you ever run in to them tell them Hi from brother Steve.
